ive just completed changing my original e30 325i shifter
to the z3 shifter part no 25 11 7 527 252.
i had to bend the gear change rod slightly to stop it rubbing.
the new shifter isnt any shorter than the original but the gear change motion is alot shorter and a great improvement on the original.
i would recommend anyone to carry out this mod.
at Ԛ£27 from the stealers its well worth it.
thats the shifter/2 circlips/2 plastic spacers/bush.
note i had to remove the plastic piece on the end of the shifter boot.
because the new shifter lever was to wide.
you cant tell though.

Mine was rubbing too .... how much did you have to bend it. And how did you get the circlip off and on at the other end?
Abd what plastic bit did you remove?

CraigG.
check out the heading ARTICLES and then TECHNICAL MENU then lok down the list for the shifter opton.
GDBN.
i used a screw driver to flick of the circlip closest the gearbox.
it to about half an hour of F--king about on my back.
i used the genuine bmw clips to refit it.
the part number is on the tech section.
have you already carried out the mod on your car.
what do you think of the result.

No I haven't ... got pissed off trying to get that last clip off and didn't have time to bend the rod and put it all back together. Had to use the car later.
I have read the article .. was just wondering how much you bent it.
Bloody clip.

Yes front clip can be awkward , but with regards to bending the rod , it really is a small amount--i just lightly tapped it until it just cleared the prop damper in all the gears and to be honest it didn't look much different than when i started, but was enough to clear.
