Picked up the donor car today from Southampton :P
Got to say its a shame to break it really but...........E30`s are more important winkeye
Drives really well, engine gearbox and clutch are sweet.
It had been stood a couple of weeks(apparently),put the key in and fired up first flick.
Actually for the size of the barge it goes really well, wasted Benjy in his iS on the A30 :chuckle: 3rd 4th and 5th gear are good fun, loads of torque, but handling 8O ,the thing is a barge!Wollows about like a dinghy in high seas and handles like a housing estate

Anyway cant wait to start ripping out engines.
Not sure which is best to strip first, the 5 or the 30?
What i dont want to do is strip the 5 and scrap it only to find that i needed this or needed that!

Also ive yet to sort out an engine crane-dont really want to hire one cause i might need it a while, and cant really afford to buy one cause ive got to buy engine mountings etc yet from the dealers.........so if anyone near me has one to loan me for beer tokens then that would be ace!

What do you mean wasted benjy on the A30!!!!!! I let you past!! Still, you cudnt stay with me thru the twisty bits winkeye
Gaffa tape is like "the force" - it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
There's nothing that shouts "Poor Workmanship" more than wrinkles in the Gaffer tap

UPDATE!!!

Phoned BMW today and ordered a pair of E36 engine arms and a pair of E28 535i rubbers, which ill pick up on Wednesday!

Stripped out the pedal box and associated plumbing to go from auto to manual!

Also phoned up and sorted engine crane hire-£25 for a week but wont bother with that untill both are ready for lifting :)

Got a fabricator mate try to get some stainless pipe to make an exhaust for me but if he cant get any secondhand in time ill have to put that on hold for a while due to funds.
Anyone know a supplier of the above stainless cheap?

Hoping to make a start on Monday unbolting engines but got to get this breaker moved first so ill have to wait and see, cant wait to start though :D

If you want a quicker and easier route for the servo/MC setup then use both from a 'plastic wing' clio

You got some 328 manifols then?

E36 is the way to go unless your using an E30 box 8)

Which Golf servo?
The E30 M/C will bolt upto the VW servo, but depending on which servo you have, you made need a small spacer.

In that case, the E30 M/C should bolt upto the servo, but you will need a spacer - the rod in the centre of the servo that M/C pushes on isnt long enough.

There is some details in this thread Click Me but Im not sure where - somewhere in the first 6 or 7 pages I think.

^thanks mate, already seen that thread and saved it!
To be honest its where most of my info has come from winkeye

Yet to sort something with the propshaft, dont fancy paying Ԛ£100 for M3 prop so will probably go the route Daves gone in that thread using E36 parts.

I wouldnt bother then. I used a servo and MC from a late clio (plastic wings), I didnt need to make any spacers or adjust the pedal to servo rod that runs accross the inside of the bulkhead.
Straight swap :D
Heres a few pics
Clio vs E30
Image

Setup is shorter giving more clearance to inlet elbow
Image

I had to blank off the two outlets on the drivers side and I fitted the clio M12 brake pipe unionto the E30 brake pipe from the ABS unit.

And if youve got [FRENCH CRAP] [FRENCH CRAP] running through your head both servo and M/C are made by Bosch

Ive done nearly 4,000 miles now since the conversion and its sweet :D

No spare parts here mate,

Just thought it would be something for you to consider when you go to the scrap yard in search of bits.

So you have the larger of the rubber prop donuts then?
