The "range function" of the on board computer in my 89 320i isn't operating properly and usually displays around 36miles regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank. I've checked both the senders in the tank and they both work on the guage in the dash.I'd be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.Thanks.

Is the OBC getting the signal from the sender?
Press the 1000 and 1 buttons on the bottom row simultaneously and it'll give a readout in litres of the amount of fuel left in the tank.

Problem sorted! cleaned the connection (both plug and socket) on obc with Bardhal electrical contact cleaner and am now getting proper readings.Every owner should have a can of this stuff in their tool box because so many problems arise from dirty connections/contacts.

The darn thang is back to its old habit again.I let the tank go down ito the reserve but when I refilled it the obc display remained on 4.5 ltrs. Will have to clean the connection more thoroughy this time.

Are you talking about the socket on the back of the obc?
