coilover adjusters rubbing tyres.

Hi, i just installed a set of FK coilovers on my e30 and the adjusters on the front set rub against my tyres- if i have them set any lower than a third of the way down the thread. Any suggestions!?
i've tried using 6mm spacers and they still rub .
it seems the only other solution is to find shorter springs so the 1 third i can use would be enough.

i cant be the first person its ever happened to, can i? ...please help!

What is the ET of your wheels?
With correct Et, you're supposed to add 5mm spacers in some cases with coilover kits, so maybe you need bigger spacers if your ET is different.

how much did you pay your kit? is it the Koenig sport?

i'm not sure the et off hand, they're 17 inch bbs rc's.
i managed to pick up the full set for Ԛ£450 exchange, i was told they cost over Ԛ£650 and they were brand new, so i got a good bargain...i think.
any more than 6mm spacers on the front and i'll get dodgy steering i reckon.

17 BBS RC? me too , so it should be ET35.
I've got large spacers (20mm front and 25mm back) and I've no problem running them.

You should go this way safely.

PS: Do you have any pics of your car with the RC on?
Ԛ£450 for a set of BBS RC 17 is a very good bargain!

would the wider spacers not cause the tyres to rub the arches instead?

good advice though its very much appreciated, its annoying not having my e30 back on the road yet! .
i'm gonna go and try some of these solutions now, so keep an eye out for my next problem, i'm sure there'll be plenty more! . thanks again!

If you are interested in a good set of spacers - I have a set (2) of eibach 20mm spacers. Bought them for my E30.

EXACTLY THE SAME HAPPENS TO ME!

I bought the FK coilover kit (for Ԛ£600) and put them on my track car. I put standard 15" BBS's on with 205/55/15's, and the springs rub on the inside of the tyre. I'm a little disappointed to say the least. The whole set-up leaves me wondering what I've spent my money on. I couldn't get the rears to lower as much as the fronts by a long shot, so ended up swapping the adjustable rear springs for a set of fixed rate Spax 60mm springs. Could have bought the H&R height adjustables for the same money...

For some reason, it doesn't rub with the Alpinas on though. Still, you would think that they would cater for the standard wheel and tyre set-up though...

Homemade kit.

Modified the motor arm so it makes the wiper arm have a longer sweep...

Was thinking about a black kidney grille, but I like the chrome ones. Have a spare so might experiment...

Thanx alot guy's, i think i've sorted it.
The FK setup on the front comes with 2 springs, i've been told i can remove the smaller ones-they're called helper springs which should give me an extra 40-50mm drop. If i do that, and use my 6mm spacers i should have more than enough clearance between them.
I'm gonna give it a go now, hopefully i'll be back on the road tonight.

My 'helper' springs compress completely flat when load is put on the strut. I have no idea what they are there for. Think I might do the same and remove them completely. They do nothing as far as I can see.

Let me know if it makes any difference... I doubt it will.

That seems to have done the job lads!
i'm back on the road and sitting nice and low!
The only thing i had to do was make a way of keeping the main coilover spring stand upright, thats the only reason i could find for the helper springs being there, just keeping the tension- so the main springs stay in the top perch.
My helper springs also fully compress when i put the car on the ground, so i removed them and the 30mm or so that they took up was enough with my 6mm spacers to make my car sit low enough to put a smile on my face!
To stand my springs up, i just made some clips to hold the bottom of the spring tight against the adjusters, and that seems to have worked fine. its only a temporary measure though, i'll have to get something like a sleeve made up to cup downwards from under my top mounts to keep the spring straight, not sure yet . maybe they make such an accessory for the job.
But for now i'll be showing off my new stance .
