I have spent the last 2 days totally rewiring my MS ECU to run a coilpack, today was the last installment and all went well.

Nice to be rid of the dizzy cap and arm, and finally have full spark control ( nobbled motronic previously ), soft and hard cut limiters, launch and traction control options all tested and working good.

Car starts better, idles smoother and generall more responsive, I will say though that upon removal my dizzy cap was cracked and the rotor arm was in fact in 3 pieces, no idea why but I guess they were due for a change anyways

For the cost of the new cap n arm, I got a brand new Omega Coilpack and connector so no real extra cost, just lots of time( big thanks to Alex for the pinouts ! )

need to sort out my Tach out pin, no tach @ the mo which is annoying....... little job for tomorrow perhaps.

Pic of the revised setup, might re-jig the HT lead run to tidy it a little but for now, here is the fruits of my labours.

Image

Will add some more boost tomorrow and go and play some more :thumb:

Yay! Glad to be of help! :D

Did you increase the plug gap in the end?

They're mega powerful these coils, I'm running a 0.9mm gap on mine :)

Nice one Ant, I must get around to fitting my cossie V6 coil pack and figuring out the wiring, four pin's, one's got to be postive feed and the others i'd guess are paired negative trigger inputs ?

What sort of 0-60 time and top speed are you getting out of this delectable beast? Nicely modded :!:

That's it :)

Way I got my pinout was to rig up a sparkplug earth to a battery and an HT lead, power up whichever low tension side pin has the least resistance when read against any one of the other LT pins (you're only reading through one coil if you've got the +ve pin and one other) and then flick an earth across the LT pins and see what the plug does.

You have to be patient as it doesn't give a terribly strong spark, but it does work and gives consistent results!

Then just note down which LT pin does what, rig up to the ECU and tell it what to expect, then ignore what's written on the coilpack for the HT outputs as they'll be different on the V6 :)

Coilpack is triggered from the std 60-2 wheel and VR sensor Andy, this MS has triple coil drivers internally to run the pack, no external EDIS module is being used.

Cheers for the positives 8) defo gonna re-do the HT leads though, expect an edit tomorrow sometime

Well thats needed obviously,
3 outputs, one for each of the coils, each coil has 2 outputs totally in 6 cylenders,
if heԚ´d be able to run 6 outputs having 6 individual coils would be pretty neat,
space consuming but need nonetheless
With great challenges comes great engineering.

Would be a further pain in the arse to have sequential ignition as you'd need to rig up a Cam Posision Sensor in addition to the Crank Position Sensor.

that's pointing out the obvious gunni! i ask because this setup produced too weak a spark for me. you can run multiple coil drivers from one output, still wasted spark.

Ant that is sweet.

have you got a battery in the front there? i always thought that would be a handy spot to mount the coil pack, although you would need some longish leads

i should be installing my EDIS wasted spark in the first week of October, keeps getting pushed back while i fix other little things (oil leaks, clutch etc). finally got an MSII cpu module too :) btw can you send me that N/A m20 spark map? (if you need my email address again let me know)

Very nice indeed - removing another known E30 weakspot :)
How much of the original loom is still being used? - and will you be offering this as part of your MS kits?
Still very interested, just trying to sort out the crap running.. which we think is down to a fault in the loom....

Best of luck!

Yeah, certainly all MS kits will now be built with the provision for wasted, Blingsta's cab is equipped with the exact same ECU and loom as mine, however the two " spare" coil drivers are software disabled for now.

Seems to be advisable to future proof the setups as I go, can be added retrospectivly to all existing MS V3.0 ECU's too, so bonus there

If I could get numbers for an MS group buy, and get confirmed orede with deposits, we could all save a few Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£.

Morat, the only parts left are the coil +'ive feed, the coolant temp wiring and thats about it, the rest of the motronic is still in place, but all dormant, this way the engine bay looms stays stock to look @

I'm interested in a group buy. Depends on the cost really. I'm handy with a soldering iron, so I was going to build it all from scratch to save money. However I can't afford to keep my E30 off the road for too long, so I need to be confident it's all going to work.

I'd be interested in a group buy for Ant MS kits, not sure when I'd be able to cough up but give me enough warning and I'll start on the bread and water :)

Well is a single driver able to produce enough power for 2 outputs?
A single driver powering a wasted spark would mean
twice fired per rev, each fire has 2 sparks , total 4,

the driver does not produce the power, the coil is grounded through the driver FET when signalled by the ECU.

Hooking two coils to sink through one driver would mean the driver is coping with double the current load as Gunni has indicated, with the MS VB921, they are current limiting but the excess duty will be obvious as a lot of heat regardless of the selected dwell interval.

Tim,, you paired yours off then dude ?

@ Gunni, hows that ECU coming along you were wanting to use last we spoke?

Oh, had 1st drive yesterday, smoooooth baby, pleased with this little upgrade

Well, My friend bought it but one driver was dead, so it was sent to the manf.
and should return soon,
on a side note ; I will be getting one for myself :)
IԚ´m going to run it on a M10 going trough few stages,

Stage 1 :
Wasetd spark, NA config with TPS for load, launch control if I bother,
no afm, MAP sensor will be installed, also wideband sensor and controller for monitoring afr, egt, air pressure and rpmԚ´s. injectors will hopefully be big enough from the get go to run what I need in the final stage although thats not really a concern

I hope to get 125-135hp on a othewise stock 1.8

Stage 2 :
Same as before , only added turbo , a very big one, boost up to 1bar,
Hope to get about 250hp as the back end will be real open
"3 exhaust

Stage 3:
Crazy cams, possibly bigger turbo, boost 2-2.3bar
should make shits of power,

IԚ´m collecting M10Ԛ´s as we speak to have in stock ;)
This is the unit I will be working with

Just wanted to publicly thank Alex for the Emerald ignition driver out puts, nice one mate :thumb:

I've also got the pin outs for the cozzy coil from a chap off one of the Ford forums this evening so i should be able to go dizzyless soon, touch wood !

Oh, and i'd thought i'd share this link i've found, looks like it's fairly cheap ? Coils/AFM's/WBO2's/etc

Audi TT WBO2, same as the ones used as the Inovate kits i think for 61 quid delivered

Brand new cozzy V6 coil pack for just over 50 quid with three year guarantee
