Not sure where to post this really, so I guess this is the best place.

Anyone seen these...Click Me

A mate of mine keeps joking that I should fit one to my Sport because of the engine conversion - or more to his point, all the wiring Ive done on it
I must admit, plumbing one in under the bonnet is beginning to sound like a good idea.

It got me thinking about all the other conversions/turbo/SC etc etc and I was wondering what other people thought.

Foam is a bugger to clean off, not as bad as dry powder though. I have been trying to find a decent CO2 one but due to the oil and fuel issue foam is the better choice really. The integrated ones are really nice as you don't have to open the bonnet to get the foam under there, bet they are not cheap! But I suppose niether is the car!

At the end of the day it's there to protect you not the car, so if you don't mind making a mess of the bay foam would be the way to go. I will be using CO2 for mine, although not as effective for oil based it should be enough for a small fuel/electrical fire.

If you wanted you could mount it in the boot and plumb it into the engine bay, plumbed in system.

Ԛ£140 for the basic system. 2.25l bottle, mounts, pipe work, nozzels and the pull cables to set it off. There is also a system with an electrical trigger, but that costs more, as do the larger bottles.

I know its more designed for track cars and with protecting the person in mind, but thats why it has two nozzels - one for the passenger compartment (aimed at the drivers feet/legs IIRC) and one for the engine bay.

Not too worried about making a mess in the engine bay - Id rather steam clean the bay than clean up after a fire and I hope it wouldnt be needed anyway.
As said above, it means you wouldnt have to open the bonnet, which in a engine fire is the worst thing you can do.

As for mounting it, have the bottle in the boot and run the pipes to the engine bay, thats the idea of the system.

I thought both nozzles were for the engine bay covering left and right side, left where the fuel is and right where the hot bits are.. The bulkhead should contain an engine fire long enough for someone to get the hell out of there.

It's a shame HiFOG don't do a car system, I suppose it wouldn't work as well as its not a sealed environment, pity as I have seen these in action and they are seriously seriously impressive.

Its really meant for a track/race car, so if the person is really strapped in then getting out in a hurry could be more difficult.

When you say under the drivers seat, do you mean the bottle or nozzels?

The bottle would be fitted in the boot and plumbed through to the engine bay, or one nozzel to the bay and the other in the passenger compartment.
I already have a small hand held extinguisher fitted by the seat, so the plumbed in system would be for under the bonnet.

- My Dads actually retired, but was a fireman in Somerset. My Brother is based in Bournemounth and funnily enough is also a RAF glider pilot/instructor at Hullavington.

I think Dad wants to get the boat out of the water on Sunday so I dont think we can make it, cheers for the offer though :thumb:
