Hi, I've got a chance to buy a 91 j 325i auto touring in sterling silver, it's got sports cloth int , lots of history , brand new 17in alpina's,very clean car,150k on the clock drives well .
I can have it for Ԛ£1200 is this reasonable or too much to pay?
any thoughts
cheers

Sounds perfectly reasonable, possibly even (not having seen it myself) a very good buy.

seems reasonable. i paid Ԛ£1200 for my h plate 325 touring with black leather interior and an alleged 80000 on the clock but no service history and standard 15" alloys,so that sounds a decent deal 8)

thanks for the advice so far the only thing putting me off is the auto box , i don't mind having an auto but i think it would be harder to sell on in the future

I'm sure there's people who will help you out converting it to manual if you feel like it. Touring is the way ahead :)

I'm sure you don't need to be told this but have a good look round the arches, sills and tailgate. Also the scuttle under the windscreen. You probably want to check that the tailgate is secure and not rattling over bumps (check the bumpstops which go into the little errr, holder things on each side they should have rubber on them) so that you can be sure that any knocking you hear from the back over bumps is the shock top mounts.

Be prepared to haggle on any of these points, or walk away from serious rust!

To put it all in perspective, I bought mine for Ԛ£1200 and have had to replace loads of stuff to get it running well, and I'm still not sure about the fuelling/idle!

The E30 auto is not as bad as popularly believed - especially if it's switchable!

Ԛ£1200 is a good price for a reasonable touring, switchable auto is ok and the engine should be sweet. But expect to pay a lot out before it is 100%. I've got to say 17 inch wheels ring alarm bells to me!

Wouldn't worry about the 17" wheels - they don't deliver the best handling from an E30, but if you decide to change them you'll probably manage a straight swap for a set of 15" BBS's.

Yes mine is a manual, its personal preference really. I prefer a manual but sometimes an automatic will have had an easier life - at least its much harder to rev its nuts off..... If the autobox packs in then get a manual box on there and you'll be sorted!

edit: See if the car comes with a good load cover, or even better a load cover/dog guard is very sought after. (It took me 6 months to find one on the zone).
