Funny enough I was looking for a new Kenwood head unit, just single CD and radio and was having a look on the rest of Kenwood's site and saw this.

For £110 im very tempted to get a system going again .

Would need the above to be removable so I can still use the full boot when needed

i'm thinking of having mine split into two systems, retaining the factory setup (though uprated) for when i run with a load in the boot and then have a single drop/plug in bass bin with an amp, crossovers, 2 x 12" subs and some decent 6x9's on the top (seperated from the sub enclosure)

this would be neat i reckon.

cougar I cant believe how cheap this sort of stuff is, when I was doing my system in my 316 head units were £300+ for an entry model, You would have paid £110 a least just for the sub and poss £200+ for the amp, witht the box and cables on tof thats fantastic value.

I would be very interested in hearing that are you planning to attend any meets

Interesting, only across the water for me

I thinking along the lines of
http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kdc334sa.asp
http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/offer_4.asp
http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/speakers01/kfcp507.asp

But not all at the same time.

Would that package work well together? with the amp powering all the speakers

cotty180 forget about the sub and amp, you will be very disapointed!!!! trust me. the speakers are very good the head unit is very basic though on it has no pre-outs for a amplifier so it wouldnt have gone with the sub and amp anyway. invest in a good head unit dude it worth it in the long run!!

What would you reccomend for a head unit, that doesnt look like a jukebox

I was considering a Nakamichi: CD-400 see thread http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... ic&t=43531 but might be a bit OTT for what I need

I dont really need much. I dont listen to the radio I just play prerecorded CD's. No MP3's or anything else.

Im not looking to enter any sound off's just want a reasonable sounding system.

Whats wrong with the sub and amp package?

I have to go out now but will check back later

Cheers

Paul

The amp shown i believe is only two channel!! You want a 3/4 channel amp to run the sub and the fronts!! 2 Channels obviousely run the fronts and then the other two are bridged to run the sub (to make it a 3ch amp!).

Might be worth checking out ebay for second hand amps, i've bought some mint condition, silly expensive amps on there for very small prices - but worth sticking with top brand names if your gonna do that! Depends how much time you have on your hands really!!

Also need to pick out a h/u with pre-outs as Kam said!!

If you want a h/u with orange illuminations to match the dash, that can limit your choices a bit!!

But for a cheapie - http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product ... duct=21453
Image
Or if you wanna spend a bit more and get a few more features - how about http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product ... duct=21582
Image

At the the end of the day though you get what you pay for!! Cheapest ones will never be as good quality! The pioneer gives you more scope to expand/upgrade your system later too!
There's thousands out there too which makes it hard to recommend anything!! I haven't used the ones above - just picked 'em out 'cos they might look more subtle than some in the e30 dash!

hi guys.
ordered a brand new SEALED nakamichi cd-400 for my e30.
its a 1989 325i 4door.

the cd-400 graces the dash beautifully!!

im planning a BIG sound quality installation as i compete in iasca sound quality competitions. as my pickup which is the competition vehicle is being spraypainted i cannot do any major work on the e30 yet as its what i rely on for transport at this stage..

but what i can say is, ive installed the cd400 and i can hear even on the factory speakers that its a awesome SOUNDING headunit!!

no-one can go wrong with it.. it beats EVERYTHING HANDS DOWN!! SQ WISE. only better units... that are available i would say:

DENON HC1
NAKAMICHI CD700(2ND HAND)
NAKAMICHI CD700ii (new @ $1100)

i highly doubt that anything sony, pioneer, rockford etc make can sound close to it. imho

also, an awesome feature... and not well documented is that one can totally TURN-OFF the onboard amplifier.. i.e when u use external amplifier. this is great.. as it TOTALLY bypasses all not-requered circuitry that can induce noise etc in the signal path.

also, its fitted with a very high quality 24bit da converter!!

also, something which i seriously consider an actual FEATURE, is the fact that it has NO-BELLS-NO WHISTLES looks about it.. your average wouldbe thief will easily mistake it for some crappy factory becker/grundig unit and not even bother to try and steal it..

its also got a nifty feature whereby u can turn-off the display for those long distance night-time drives.

the only thing i have against the nakamichi decks.. the CD700 the CD40 and the CD400 is the fact that they dont have ILLUMINATION wire. i.e

some radios can be wired to ur dash illum wire so that if u put ur parks on the unit lights up with the dash. in the case of the nak it only does when u turn it on.

hope this helps

regards
anton

I thought Becker were supposed to be quite good.
