I have a 1984 318i with a 3 speed Auto zf gearbox, I have been offered a 4 speed Auto 4hp22 from a M40 318i for free and i'm wondering if it is a straight swap over without modifications?

I wouldnt have thought the M40 gearbox would fit your M10.

although, the m10 is basicaly same as an m30 allbeit less 2 cyls so might be same bolt pattern.
