im looking at buying a stainless manifold quite cheap but it is for the m42 engine and mine is an m40 i was wondering if it would fit

umm don't think so, you would need the rest of the M42 exhaust system to fit onto the manifold....
I'm sure the m40/m42 exhaust mountings are different, i have a m42 manifold here if you want one!
Is the one for sale a BMW part? if so check it carefully around the front cylinder flange for cracks
