Hi guys
I have a 1992 325 4 door and need to get five stud hubs for the wheels I want.
Can I just fit the m3 flanges on or is there more to it? Some of you guys must have done this before. I have done a quick search but not really found too much on it.
Can anybody help?
Cheers

The rear E30 M3 hubs will fit into the 325i rear arms, but the fronts wont fit as the M3 uses a different size front bearing.
You will need the complete E30 M3 front setup ideally or you can use the E36 front setup.

AFAIK the bit with the 5 holes in, that the wheel bolts to can be fitted in place of the 4stud bit on the 325i. Im sure someone on here has done this, but it might of been on another forum - Ive definately read it somewhere.
As the rear bearings are the same, its a direct swap. Probably best to renew the bearings whilst youre there.

you need e36 trailing arms and front struts with the stub axle plate bolted on and the M3/e36 CABS i think, use the e36 brakes aswell. i think its all e36 stuff if not, the front struts will work but you need z3 or e36 compact trailing arms

using the e36 set up is that going to push the ofset out, so wide arches are needed ?

Ok here goes on the rear axles from what I have found:
Axles from the e30, Z3 <3.0 and M3 are all the same, they are 86mm diff flange which fits the e30 diffs (small and large) The rear from an e36 compact will also fit ok and are 5x120
5 stud was on the Z3, the M3 and e36 Compact so any of these would do as the parts source for conversion.
Fronts: the e36 front hubs will fit fine but I think the offset is out on these too, the Z3 ones are the same as the e36. Using the steel rims as a reference the e30 shows ET35 and the e36/Z3 shows ET41 meaning there would be a 6mm pushout compared to the e30. Hope this helps a little, post whatever other findings you can as I have this coming up soon too (but with 94mm Z3M halfshafts)
So basically you need a busted: Z3 <3.0, e30 M3 or an e36 compact (think the 316 and 318 came with drums so avoid) but you are going to have an offset issue on the front unless you source the M3 fronts

Right. Been looking on EDK tonight at work. Rear wheel bearings on E30 and E36 are the same so aslong as the e30 driveshafts fit in e36 flanges then you can fit these easy. I am going to keep researching this tomorrow so i will post what I find.

Ive had a go at this a few months ago....

I used the complete E36 subfame (which bolts straight up the the E30 chassis) only prob is that it pushs the engine back by about 2 inches...
But with the E36 subframe fitted, i could attatch E36 lower arms, rear brackets with offset bushes (for the arms), E36 complete strut, E36 M3 discs, pads & calipers, and obvioulsy it was 5 stuf hubs.
I was using S50 3.0 stuff. The 3.0 has offset front top mounts (well mine did anyway). which ment i couldnt bolt the top mount up as the offset flange was too wide to fit inside the E30 strut tower. I had a feeling the 3 bolts didnt line up anyway.....
Thats as far as i got. I was in a rush to get other work on the car done so took it all off and went back to E30 stuff.
But id love to find a soloution.....
Oh, 1 other thing i noticed, when the e36 stuff was on, and wheel was bolted on - it defenatly had positive camber (i.e, top section of wheel was angling out) only by a few mm i would guess but didnt look right. Admitidly i didnt have an engine in it which may of helped (weight etc) but something to bear in mind.
Hopefully it was cuz i used e36 everything. Probably wouldnt do this on an E30 just using E36 hubs though.
There's some more pics of what i did here in my project - bottom of page 4 http://www.bmwtrackdays.com/forum/viewt ... c&start=45

Another quick thing I have just come across :
Strut leg adapters (front)to convert E30 4 stud to 5 stud.
These allow you to bolt the E28 5 stud strut onto the E30 mounts. They are straight from the E30 M3.
Might be another route to look at, I don't have anymore info though

Cheers ED that is a very usefull document. I am going to try putting e36 flanges staight into the e30 rear axle as the bearings are the same. As for the front, that is going to be a bit of a mission but I will find a way!!

I'm sure the lower swivel plates are the same, but the E28 has the caliper infront of the strut, it would need to be checked if this would cause any problems with the E30 front mounted steering gear. In series production E30/E28 the caliper is mounted on the opposite side tot he steering gear.Argos wrote:Hmmm, that's interesting. The E30 M3 has the three bolt lower swivel plate that fits onto the lower baljoint and the strut then bolts to the plate. I wonder if the bolt spacing on the E28 and M3 struts is the same? If so that would be a dirt cheap conversion - a pair of plates from BMW, Ԛ£30 for a pair of good E28 struts - and the E28 and E30 top mounts are the same. Same calipers as the M3 too. The only problem might be the offset of the E28 hubs.Jos wrote:Another quick thing I have just come across :

On another tack, the E28 and E30 hubs are very similar - I think they are the same thing but with 4 or 5 bolt holes.

you should not be able to get 4x100 to 5x120 as 1 stud will overlap
most people end up using 5x112 or 5x100

Complete E30 M3 stuff works and fits fine, and it's nice to have the complete setup from the same car.
It is quite expensive but it was made for the E30.

I was thinking this but I would need to find somewhere to get the front wheel bearings without the flange/hub as these come as one from BMWmichealewk wrote:the handiest way is to get your own hubs drilled and treaded a mate of mine got it done and i have a set of hubs away getting it done
