you could apply for the V5, the current owner would be gioven 14 days to contest it then you would get the V5, then if noone claims it i assume its been stolen and dumped or failed its mot dramatically and the owner dumped it.

The dealers may be able to give you the VIN if you give them the registration No

The council claim them because they're wise to it. We recently had a letter at work from the DVLA due to a damaged company car being dumped in an NCP for 18 months. The car park company applied for ownership. If they found out the VIN it wasn't from us....

end of the day if its been left all they will do is crush it , police / etc will only hold onto a recovered vehicle 6 weeks and thats if its of any value,
either you take what you need off it or they earn a pretty penny wheighing it in

You can get the VIN if you can get into the bonnet, which should take you about 30 seconds, maybe a little longer if it's seized up!

Precisely why I didn't post it on the thread... It's pretty obvious though, & usually people'll tell you how to get into the inside of the car too! (That takes about 2 minutes maybe?)smithy318i wrote: REPLIES VIA PM ONLY PELASE.

if the car is on a public road with no tax then you could just tow it away, i did this with a belmont about 5 yrs ago. then i appliad for a new log book and got it. then the car wa mine. bear in mind that if you just take it then apply, but it turns out the car was stolen or similar you could end up with the blame. incidentally i dont remember needing the vin..

fellah,
do it by the book. If its only £19 its got to be worthwhile. Just taking it away will be pretty hard to justify - especially if it was stolen 100 miles away and dumped near you. Someone might still be wondering where their e30 is.

As said above, when you get the logbook just go to the dealer and ask them for a key. You never know... with some jumpleads you might drive her onto the trailer
Then you've got MOT and Tax of course, but you might be onto a bargain if its got A/C and all the bits.
