BMW e36 328i sport?

What is the bhp of these cars when they came out the factory?

Having an argument with a friend and he says it was around 240hp. I think its about 193ish.

Also did they do a motorsport version? Aren't these just convertibles?

328i sport was 192bhp

no motorsport was done.. only m-tech kitted ones

I thought the 328i was 193bhp and the 325i was 192bhp?? Little difference as the 328i was limited for some German insurance somethign or other so I believe, but it can be opened up with a 325i intake and may make over 200bhp then. 240bhp is a bit optimistic though without more extensive mods

Yep 192bhp for 325's and 193 for 328's. They are restricted due to German insurance cut offs iirc but can be derestricted quite easily. The 328's have more torque as standard.

To derestrict a manifold from a 325 and larger bore throttle body sort it out. There are full conversion kits for them available through a member on e36coupe.com for around £400 iirc. Should see 210-215 bhp then.
With a few more simple mods 240 is quite acheivable

There is no motorsport and the sport is mechanicaly the same, like the e30 sport . Differences are m-tech kit, lsd or asc, black headlining, seats, wheels etc etc.

My mate has a e36 328i conv, very torquey indeed, but not 240bhp...

Yep got a 328i myself with schrick hi flow intake manifold, gruppem replica induction kit, Big bore throttle body, supersprint exhaust, chip, viscous fan delete and underdrive power steering and water pump pullies. Pulls about the 240-245 BHP range

328i is very good to get more power out of if im right. There was a guy on the PBMW forums who had really good power well over 200bhp with just a few mods. Would love one of these engines in my e30.lol.

& M3 evo = 321 bhp

328i is a hell of a car for your buck, and if it was not for my daily M23 jaunt to work i would have got one myself one. i read in one of the bm mags that it is not such a straight forward bolt on job as i thought initially to grt the extra power!! it involves a bit of modifying the manifold and the throttle body which was news to me

It requires ALOT of modifying dude, not worth attempting yourself unless your handy at machining, the work on the tb is just the usual boring out stuff.

My 328i Sport ran 231bhp with M50 manifold, BTTB, Gruppe M rep (which i dont rate) and Emaps remap.

Was a total transformation over the standard car

Andy, as the heads are identical it does bolt straight on, but you have to modify the M50 to take the ICV and the like which is fastened to the normal 328i manifold on a sort of plate, which bolts to the manifold. This is "missing" on the 325i inlet manifold, and the "hole" which is rectangular in shape needs to be reproduced on the 325i inlet manifold. You could modify the linkage so you could use the 325i throttle body on the 325i inlet manifold wihich would make everything mate up ok, or machine an adaptor plate so you can use the two eight TB. Its not really that difficult to see once you have the 2 manifolds together, you can see what needs to be done
