Rough guess, Possible fuel pump on the way out or an ignition relay.
Or the rev limiter

Check the connection on the fuelpump too, mine was bad and caused strange cutouts, ended up replacing it with a 25A choccyblock, sorted!

The loss of one of two things will cause the engine to cut out, Ignition/Spark and Fuel/Air.
If the fuel is ok, then start to look at the ignition system.
What engine is it? M20B25 ?

Fuel pump relay ?
Orange one next to the white (DME) relay under the bonnet.

dont mean to sound a know-it all, but scrap ALL of the above and go straight for your ECU!!!! Open it up and i bet you that you will find you ecu either sitting in a bath of water, or with completely corroded electrical tracks. what you describe is the exact and i mean the EXACT same thing i had with the car in my sig pic when i used to own here. If its an 073 ecu, ihave one here you could try in its place.

Glad to be of some help! The one on your 320 would not fit unfortunately. Take a look at the stickers on the ECU casing. You will probably have a number that ends in 073 or 064.
You will need an ECU with a number that matches your existing one.
If it happens to be an 073 ECU, i have one here as I said before. If its an 064 one, its running slightly different engine management, so you will have to get one that matches that.
If i can help any more, please let me know.
