Havent seen all the fitting PDF (pics wouldnt load), but how come only LHD? Isnt all the SC stuff mounted at the front of the engine, so out of the way of the steering stuff?

It does say only for vehicles without AirCon and PAS though.

Not true. I spoke with Rotrex earlier this year and the kit will fit a RHD car but you have to lose the PAS/AC (the kit uses the PAS pulley to drive the 'charger).

I've cut & pasted the email response I got from Rotrex, verbatim:

"hello again, please remark that the E30 kit is only made for the
non-aircon versions, as the supercharger uses the same location as where
the air-con pump otherwise is located.

there should not be an issue with the RHD cars for the E30 kit.

The kit is available, however not sold directly from Rotrex, but one of
our close-by dealers still has kits in stock;

Availability: 1 week delivery time upon receival of pre-payment
Price: 22.000 dkk ex. VAT (approx 2.955 Euro + 737 Euro Danish VAT)

Please let me know if you are interested, and I will connect you to the
reseller"

That came from a Mr. Anders Jensen. The prices may not be valid anymore, they're a year old! But if their kit fitted RHD cars last year it'll fit this year.

The guy who supposidly has one fitted to his car in Aberdeen bought it from a company in the US (Lowden Design...?), but when I traced it back I found they were simply re-selling the Rotrex kit. Hence Rotrex may not be aware of this (if it's even true, I heard it through a 3rd party). I contacted Rotrex directly (email above). But I've ran out of cash for now, maybe next year... :(

Does this run on the standard ECU?

What about the extra fuel needed when on boost etc?

You should be able to buy the kit from the EU vat free, but you'll pay the UK vat at import (if you don't declare it UK customs will also hit you with a penalty which can mean you paying another 30% (tax + penalty + admin fee) onto the price :x - I speak from experience!!! :( )

The 240bhp is over standard, I read another article that stated this was +90bhp over the standard US spec 150bhp... don't know whether that will actually result in 260 for a 170bhp car... :D winkeye

What if??? winkeye

You went to collect it? put it in your car, didn't neccesarily install it but just drove back with it on your possesion, would they assume it was bought abroad?
If you crossed in france and you had a Euro reciept would you then have to pay tax, as they may assume it was bought there too?
Not sure how they could prove you just didn't take it back for repairs before refitting, so there should be a way round it!

Not that I condone that sort of behaviour, no I don't condone it at all just find it mildly ammusing! :D

Exactly what I had been thinking (great minds and all), if you are paying to get it installed why not do it over there, make a holiday of it and just drive your car back - they'd be none the wiser. You may even be able to avoid the EU tax too...??? winkeye

I hate to tell you gentlemen that denmark is a member of the eu and if you bought it there you would have to pay the 25% VAT they charge,,there would be no tax payable when you took it to any other eu state ...the idea is to import to the uk and pay the 17.5% vat which we charge over here...and also it is only 630 miles fron dunkirk to odense ........ enjoy the drive

well it would be anice trip and was a nice idea!

Don't know anyone in Canada do you? or another non-EU state, I have friends in Switzerland, could import it them paying no VAT and collect it from them.

There must be a way round it some how, but then if you did import it legally wouldn't they then have to reimburse you part of the VAT, I know at work we don't charge VAT on goods we export to the US!

In theory if you buy it from them direct they shouldn't charge you VAT as its going out the country, you then pay UK VAT/Duty on import.

JazzMan wrote:In theory if you buy it from them direct they shouldn't charge you VAT as its going out the country, you then pay UK VAT/Duty on import.
Hence my earlier comment, buy it from the dealer for export (there will be customs paperwork to be completed) at vat free price. Collect it from them (save the p&p), then drive down the road and take it to a pre-arranged destination to have it fitted (will have to be independent of the retailer otherwise the retailer will have to charge you EU vat). When you drive back into the country how they gonna know once it's fitted?

Only issue there is: do customs in the other country supply UK customs with details of their exports? And if so, will UK customs come knockin' on your door? - Probably, knowing my luck defo :(

To be honest I'd just buy it and get it shipped here, sorting out the customs paperwork before hand so you don't pay the 25% Danish vat but pay the 17.5% UK vat - note: if you don't sort out the paperwork you'll have to pay both, claim back the Danish 25% (may take months) and run the risk of getting hit with a penalty or at least an admin charge from UK customs - I know, they hit me with vat + penalty + admin charge for a set of ligths which came to me from the US, I'd bought from eBay UK and didn't know they were coming from the US (seller didn't advertise this) but once they had my money they didn't care and my lights ended up costing me +50% more!!!! But at least that was £40 for me to learn my lesson, on this kit it could cost £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£!!!!!

I've imported stuff too, if it goes through there is always a vat, duty & admin charge. If you get it sent by world mail you might be lucky and it doesnt get caught by the system. But people like DHL will always declare because they get their admin fee then! PITA!

Not sure how it work in Denmark but as far as I understand it if you order stuff from outside the EU from the UK the UK companies just dont charge you the VAT. Maybe it would work in a similar way there rather than needing to deal with paying and then getting your money back. With VAT, duty and admin on the way in its like to still be less than the full Danish price ??! dont know know how much duty they would charge on on a super charge. General rule of thumb for stuff coming in from the US is 1/3 on top of the purchase price.

the charges on importing stuff for cars is 8% on top of which they charge 17.5% on the cost including the carriage

plus the admin fee from parcelforce

Switzerland land isn't in the EU, have it exported to a swiss garage and get it installed there, then drive away.

Invoice/delivery address is the garage in switzerland, UK customs would never know.

Having said that I can see a swiss garage would be mega bucks, what about Norway? they arn't in the EU either!

Anyway I know people who have done crap like this on a much larger scale and admitadly they got away with it....... for a while then had serious problems!!

But I guess a supercharger in your engine bay isn't a couple tons of booze, if done well enough how do UK customs know you didn't drive out there with it attatched? and if they look in your engine bay you have more serios smuggling issues to worry about, and don't drop the soap!

But anyway back onto the subject and not smuggling, any one know if anyone ACTUALLY has a supercharged BM in the UK?

when ive bought stuff from anywhere in EU you pay the tax in whatever country you buy it from, you dont pay the VAT when it gets to UK that only happens on items from outside EU, You dont pay the tax in the country you buy it from then, you pay it in UK. Ive orders alot of stuff from US and stuff from germany, france and sweden and its always the way it worked for me.
