I've been playing cars today.
Before the ITG vs BMC test I was getting nice and dirty changing the suspension on the Alpina C2.
It previously had a H&R Cup Kit but because of the front ride height the Alpina Front spoiler kept hitting and we had to leave it off.
So, raise the car says Mr Parvaiz Akhtar (the owner). H&R 35mm springs with Bilstein shocks please and some H&R Anti Roll Bars.
Now from previous experience with Bilsteins I found the ride to be a little hard. So taking Demlotcrew's suggestion I used a different set of Billies. The 45mm Mtec yellow Bilsteins with the collar specially designed so that they fit into a 51mm strut.
After removing the H&R Shocks I had a look at the over height of the two. The H&R Shocks are about 1 inch shorter still. had a standard Boge unit lying around too and the Bilstein Sport damper is alot shorter than that!
The H&R Damper also seems to be softer than the Bilstein. This wasn't good as we were trying to make the ride a little better too but I went ahead anyway as the Cup Kit springs are harder than the 35mm ones.
Got it all on (couldn't be asked to fit the ARB's - job for Ant) and went for a 100 mile drive with 3 people in the car.
Suspension settled down quite a bit by the time we got back, car now has a more practical ride height.
I'm really impressed with this setup. Nicer ride than the Cup Kit, excellent handling still, a little more roll through the corners. No real difference in grip though. Driving around London it's now a much nicer car.
I can highly recommend this setup to anyone. Definately the best all round setup from what i've experienced.
Cup kit is still king for value for money though but this really is a class setup even though it's a little more expensive. More practical ride height, smoother ride and no real loss in ultimate performance.
Roll bars are going to make another big difference - will update when Ant has some time to fit them.
