one part of the frame for the roof on the cab has broke, and it looks like the main frame part, a mate says it looks like its cast and can not be welded, is this right?

Can i buy just the frame, or am i going to end up getting a whole new (or secondhand) roof?
The roof itself is in excellent condition, as is the window.. just the frames snapped :x

You can weld cast. You just use different type welding rods. How thick is the metal? If its thin it will be hard to weld with an arc welder. Are you sure its cast? You can find out by looking for casting marks or if you cant see any, get the grinder on it and if the sparks that come off are yellow/white instead of orange then it is cast.

Cast what?!

You can cast most metals and if it's not iron based, it's pretty unlikely to spark at all!

you can weld cast, alot depends on the quality of the casting tho, if its low quality cast iron then you will need cast iron rods and fluw to do proper job, if its decent quality you can weld with dissimilar stick rods or gas weld with nickel then steel rods, aluminium can be tig welded but the finish/quality you get on weld depends on quality of casting. What so if its metal most likely it can be welded but not a job for someone at home with a hobby mig really, take it to a welding specialist
