Which corners better the E28 or the E30?

And do they use the same engines?

the E28 is a larger heavier car so will never corner / accelerate / brake as well as a similar spec E30. that said, a E28 is still a very capable car.

The E28 mostly uses the M30 lump as far as i know, this is the big brother of the E30's M20 lump. the M30 will go in a E30 though, with a little pushing and shoving! :D

some E28's had a LSD as standard (M5 and maybe M535i?) but mostly it's like the E30, down to pot luck!

the e28 m5 is one of the most overlooked weapons ever imo. e28s are larger yes but they are way, way lighter than people think and especially lighter than e34s, with an s38 lump in i bet you they feel 10 times quicker than any e30 m3 or e34 m5 can dream off.

having said that try and find a decent e28 compared to the amount of e30s there are about!

Sorry Argos...my mistake on the 518/M40, if you're sure...One I saw was probably a DIY conversion/replacement, then...

But I will dispute the other issues...I had a 525i a little while back and it was, generally, a good motor...The engines are solid as are the 'boxes, diffs, brakes, etc...Suspension is easy to sort (if it is shagged) with shocks/springs very cheaply and the 525i upwards aren't bad performers...Water leaks in the boot is a rubber seal job (few quid and a few minutes) and they are no more prone to cracking heads than an E30 or E34...

My 525i had 250,000 miles and, prop coupling apart, was in solid, useable condition when I sold it...(for £150, mind with MoT, too).

The M535i is the same as a standard 535i with a few bolt-on plastic panels and a couple of badges...Nothing special about those at all!

The M5, though, is a really nice motor...

e28"s are still cool. the yanks love them, and quite rightly so.

as argos said. they handle like shit. ive not driven an m5 varient ever(maybe i will own one someday), but ive owned a 535i(has everything that the m version has but without that kit and dogleg) it didnt handle well. but its a really fast car. will rape a 325 and is comparable to a big dollar 2.7 conversion if not better.

the 525e is also a quick old turd. serious.....

autos only. but on the kick down they are very rapid. unfortunatly their blocks end up on garage floors for years on end thanks to dreamers etc. although i have noticed nice condtion 525e"s going for good money on ebay.

My top ten Beemers to own included an E30 M3 and an E28 M5 but now Ive got the M3 I would never part with it. My dad had an E28 M5 an I loved it as a kid but other than the double hard looks it loses in every other fight against the M3

mate you cant even compare the two cars! 280bhp(something like that) against a 171bhp 325i(on a good day) there is no compatition really.

i've only driven a M535i and i found it handled better than my 325i touring (as it was at the time). the grunt of a M30 is addictive and it's only the fact i need one as my everyday car that stops me owning one. they're a load harder to find in breakers for the everyday repairs... oh and the M30 is a lot more fun in a E30!!!

I have driven a few e28 m5's but not for a few years now but i still remember that they were a quick proper drivers car! I would love to own one. I used to have a e28 528i manual with factory sports suspension and a lsd and that used to handle amazingly well. I love the older bm styling e21,e28,e30 but thats what i was brought up with. e28 m5 prices are still high for a minter but i have seen a couple for around 4 grand but i spose its like buying a e30 m3, you get what you pay for.

I had a 1983 E28 528i too. Paid £300 for it with 175,000 miles and there was not a squeak or rattle from inside.
It had an lsd and was halarious in the wet, the easiest car I've ever driven to be a sideways hooligan in. Went quite well too, used to get an easy 140mph on the clock.
I'm thinking my next project could be an E28 550i V12.

Scrapped the lot, could not be bothered to mess about as did not have any time or any more room, just needed shot of the car. Kept a few bits and pieces though. Tbh if you are going to do a m30 conversion you may aswell go all the way and put a 3.5 in it. I only paid £450 for the cars about 8 years ago and had a couple of years fun out of it, so i did not owe me a thing really. I have so much junk in my garage/shed/house/loft it is unreal, not to mention still got 7 cars.

I should be coming to the next guildford meet, last one i came to was about 4 months ago. Not sure what i will come in though. I am selling my 325i tourer to dave as soon as i get the mot done, only a few bits to do now! I will be selling one of my m3's the europameister ( not the concours one ) as soon as i have time to complete it. I have an e36 to break which is smashed up on my drive. And ontop of that my track car is in loads of bits. The only thing i can drive at the min is my old diesel escort. :(
