Hi all,
Tried installing some front fogs today, but came across an odd problem. The sequence of events went something like this:
- Front fogs went in and connected correctly to the terminals.
- Underdash removed, old fog switch popped out, double fog switch put in.
- checked fuses 29 and 30, had 7.5V fuses already in those slots.
- looked at relay K4, put in an identical looking relay in at relay K8.
Then tried the front fogs, and they come on for about half a sec, then go off. Back fogs working ok.
Took relay K8 out and replaced with relay K4. Same thing happens - front fogs flicker on for a millisec, then go out. Slight ticking noises heard coming from the fuse box after the lights go out until the light switch is turned off.
Removed the relay from K8 and put it back into its rightful place at K4, and the back fogs work fine.
Anyone any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Cheers
Ben

If its a second hand switch, then it may just need working a little. What I mean is, sit there for 5-10mins just pushing the switch in and out.
Turn the lights on and see if that works - I did it with the lights on so I could see the green dashlight flickering on and off.
The BMW technician who helped me buy my Sport said its a common problem because the switches dont get used that often - the contacts get dirty or something. Ive had this on both my E30s and doing the above worked both times.

Daz, when you say clean, do you mean the back of the switch where the socket points are, or do you mean pry open the switch box and clean the insides of the switch?
try the pins but if not then maybe open it up and clean inside with some contact spraybenobi wrote:thanks for the suggestions lads.
