touring rear speaker wiring

on my tourer, some moron has fitted 6" co-ax speakers in the boot side panels and an amp to drive them (worthwhile... no!) :eek:

i want to return the setup to standard (ish) and have the speaker enclosures and replacement side panels ready.

the problem is the wiring has been butchered by the moron who fitted the amp and another moron who fitted the towbar electrics and i can't work out what is the original speaker wiring.

where abouts does it emerge from the loom? does anyone know anything really useful like the colours?

Got the back of my Touring totally stripped out at the minute, the speaker cables on mine look like they run along the sills, up the arch ( covered by a hard plastic cover ) then emerge by where the seat belt reels are.

I can check the wiring colour tomorrow if you need but im not 100% sure its original

that's handy!

it's wierd, the one i got the replacement parts from looked like the cables came directly from the front but i'd assumed something odd was going on there. maybe not?

I have three tourings, and on all three the speaker wiring is the same, so, presumably is OE.
It goes back the centre of the car under the carpet, and looks very amateurish, but as I've said, it's the same on all three.
Colours, IIRC, are green and green/black one side and grey and grey/black the other.
Some muppet has fitted coax speakers in the side panels of one of mine as well.

oh right, didn't look there! so it runs down the tranmission tunnel?

the wiring on mine is terrible! i found why my rear washer motor wasn't working... one of the morons mentioned had unplugged the washer pump connector and shoved the amplifier 12v switch wire in there and strapped it up with insulating tape!!! unreal!

News to me to!!

Talking of bad wiring, i spent a a few hours tonight ripping out the handfull of wiring that was in there for a home made towbar, household flex and scratchlock connectors :?

All gone now - loom tidied up and looking standard :D

Are the rear speakers in a proper holder in the back?
Whoever fitting mine used those bendy metal strips - most bodgetastic!

mine has the nastiest damage to the loom from the fitting of the towbar. 2 seperate trailer plugs and enough new wiring to fill a carrier bag! there must be 20 scotchlok connectors per side! + the amp stuff.... not pretty!

the original ported plastic speaker enclosures are missing but i did see a tourer in the breakers with exactly that method of fitting speakers. people don't seem to twig that a speaker needs at least some form of enclosure to work effectively!

i'm planning to fit the rear enclosures sometime soon to see what it should sound like!

i got the eclosures on mine, dont know if it sounds any good though, the front standard are better

Just fitted a new head unit to mine and the rear speaker wires go under the centre console and around the gear stick. The then disappear under the carpet by the handbrake. From there I don't know. Interestingly, both cables sets are black and black/red. This made it interesting working out which way to wire things up on the stereo!

These colours were for the front speakers on mine. The car had one 'old gentleman' owner before me so I'm assuming he didn't play around with things so its probably standard.
