Not including my initial purchase of the car, I have spent the grand total of......... *drums his hands on the table*...................

Ԛ£4657.98

Um..........eek! That puts me just into M3 territory.... dodgy M3 territory, but nevertheless.

And just for you all to know, that figure is BEFORE ive started on the engine and gearbox and diff refurbs, before it has an interior, and about a million other bits either.

Just thought i should publicly let you know how stupid i am.

Thanks

Not stupid, you're just being thorough. If you buy any E30, there's bound to be work required on it and the amount to be spent depends on your standards as well as the initial consition of the car. I've spent 000s on my 316i over the years, and think I should have got a 318iS in the first place, but probably would have spent similar money anyway. Better than spending on drink or drugs, at least you will have a nice car at the end.

I know it's a lot mate but just think, you'll ave the nicest M-Tech 1 sport in the country and i bet you could sell it for silly money once it done, not that you'd want to though 8)

God Scott... you'e SO stupid!

That's a lot of money, but there's people who spend a lot more on restoring classics... 10's of thousands of pounds, so it's not that bad.

You'll have 'your' car at the end of it though... and that's GREAT!

I second that nothing like first run, knowing every inch of the car and knowing you did it ALL. Pure class, might go and light a hamlet........

Nothing wrong with making something you like. You might end up spending Ԛ£7000 in the end but it will be one stunning E30 Mk1 Sport.

I'm sick and tired of hearing that the E30 isnt worth spending money on.

I look forward to seeing the end result.

Are you looking at doing anything to the engine? 2.7 conversion for big torque would be a nice thing to have after spending all that cash.

Take is easy geezer

This is what I always say if I stop and thinks about much money my boyfriend and I spend on cars....I'd be very rich now if I saved every penny I've spent on my cars
I had a classic mini a couple of years back that owes me more than 6 grand 8O
You could go out and spend 30 grand on a new 3 series that's just like everyone elses. At least your car is your car and you've put your stamp on it :D 8)

Take it easy - it's a hobby, albeit an expensive one!

Ouch, thats alot of money scott.

But your spending it on something you love and theres nothing wrong with that, ive spent so much on my bikes (cannondale, and bmx) but i dont care, its life ive saved up quite i bit of money now which is cool, but i can see it going on my car.

BBTB, chip, 3 new tyres, de-chrome kit, strut brace, new H & R springs, Recaro interior.

This will come to loads, and i wont get half of much back when i come to sell it but you only live once.

When its done, i want a ride in a brand new M-tech 1 E30, ok :thumb:

Nice one laddy, your young,go on,burn those credit cards while they still hand them out!
I waste about two grand a year on fags, and noone has much to say about that, you don't smoke,so look at it like your SAVING two grand and spending it on something that won't give you emphasima.

scott

i'd rather an m tech-1 sport over an m3 any day, it's a good choice you've made in my book. nice cars cost a bit to own (legally) - i don't see any way round that fact.

to make you feel a bit better - i've spent over 8k on my 316i and it's still on it's original engine and running gear!

tell you what - when yours is finished i'll give you back your 4.6k for it!

Just been reading thru the list of replies.... i didnt expect to get so many positive replies considering everyone told me a was off my rocker(cover) to do this project.

Kedge, It wont be the nicest.... that title will probably always belong to "The One" ( to Ant)

Gee', im starting to think that i was stupid to do this, especially as im having so many money problems now over it and because of it. My final figure will be close to 8k or 9k even, so its not that great either. What rubs it in even more is that i was sitting in a 330Ci in silver with leather and electric everything this afternoon and it was for sale for Ԛ£22k and I was thinking.... "Im spending the best part of 8k on my sport and it will still have 190k on the clock, i can get hold of 2k off my parents if i really needed it, and the bank would have given me a 10k loan for a car, so i could actually own this car on paper, but im still putting myself thru the mincer on an 18 year old car...why?" and do u know what?....... for the first time since i started this project, i questioned my motives. :(

Sal, 7k would be an optimistic figure mate. Engine will, initially be a std 2.5 with some polishing work done by myself to save the pennies, but i guess that one day, it may end up a 2.7 or maybe a 2.6 and retain its revvabiity over the 2.7.

Willow, lots of respect to the 6k mini!!!!!!!! Also see my post to Geeman above on the new 330Ci.

Chris, i know u didnt pay that much for it mate, and that car has had a LOT more love than mine has.

Rog, my cards are maxed out at BMW Swansea. I dont have 2k to spend on fags so i cant claim to be saving it. lol.

Placey, I prefer the straight 6 noise, and i probably wouldnt buy an M3, but its just for comparison. If u want mine when its finished, you'll have to find a lot more than that 4.6k to release the keys from my clenched fist..... needless to say nobody will pay that sort of money for it, so i can consider it as not for sale. The day I sell that car will be the day that the sh1t really REALLY does hit the fan!

Ant, I know ur with me on it mate! I will eventually have a set of 15"BBS alloys for you to get refurbed for me when i have the cash, so i will remember the supportive comments. Tech 1 all the way baby!!!!!!

Russ, glad u havnt lost your intellectual ability to string a complex sentence together with well constructed comments!

scott. total respect for what you are doing mate. i think i will love this car when its done, i love mtech 1 sports more than anything else. shame i couldn't rely on finding a one in as good as condition as simons otherwise i would have had the tech 1. the last post wasn't meant as a dig at you in any way, just comedy factor. i take it you took it this way anyway though.

just remeber mate...need any favours, just ask. i will help whereever possible.
