yesterday i topped up my oil.today after driving the 5 miles to work i noticed the engine was sounding a bit tappety so i popped the bonnet to discover i had forgotten to put the oil filler cap back on and there was oil everywhere
after a delivery off oil and top up it started fine with no noises at all ,cosworths low on oil =expensive repairs so im thanking the gods that it didnt fcuk up.moral of the story is always go over everything to double check when working on your car just in case

yeah, could have been a rather grizzly ending to the car if the liberal spraying of oil had found it's way onto a cherry red turbo

i had never even considered that tbh.i was more concerned with seizing the engine or turbo
i did find out though that hot oil doesnt half shift all the other dust and grime and now the engines shining

i've done that too... bet a large percentage of us have too!
on a M20 or M30, it'll idle like shite so it's a good early warning. not early enough to stop a horrible mess though.

Could of been very expensive sunday if my dad had gone to a garage £200 to drain the fuel
Lucky escape would of been a dying shame if you had seized your engine

it would have been a nightmare after sorting out all my running problems at great expense only to destroy it through a stupid mistake.i was trying to do to much at once, replacing track rod arms, front suspension top mounts, springs and brake pads, all after a 10 hour shift and trying to beat the darkness.it all had to be done so the tracking could be set up before i get my new tyres fitted tomorrow

oil light is redundant and pressure guage is not fitted yet which is the most important guage to have on a turbo engine
its now at the top of my things to do list

I left mine off on my e36 2.8 for I don't know how long.
All I know is that I couldn't remember the last time I had topped it up? All was fine but the cap was never to be seen again
Lucky escape with a cossie engine.

i would have as my first choice ,but due to circumstances and timing i went this route.i already owned all the cosworth parts as they were salvaged from my last project and where sitting around in my garage gathering dust when the e30 engine blew.im not a fan of fords at all but the cosworth engine is a motoring icon thats relatively cheap and simple to tune to big power once you get past the reliability issuesjonb wrote:fussy

few years ago took a mk2 golf gti for a test drive. seen it parked up white hart lane for weeks. thought cheap run around. done usual check oil and so on but forgot to put cap back on. giving gti some down a406 and can hear this noise pinking from engine. pull over, pull bonnet. seller was not impressed.
