With the evo 2 on the drive there is no contest sorry e30 fans.

I would have the BMW, I'm not BMW blinkered, just think it's a nicer looking car. Not having driven either though I can't comment on that aspect. I'd like to have a go in them both though! Any offers?

Well iv driven and had rides in plenty of M3s, iv also been for a ride in an evo 2 merc. I would definately say the merc is a better car than the standard M3, it seemed to have a lot more guts through the rev range.
I been round the ring in an evo sport and it was very impressive and may well have been better than the merc - its 50/50 really for me
Dont forget tho, this topic has nothing to do with the evo 2 merc, its about the cosworth version which is not in the same league of performance or price.

Either way its the Cosworth for me, you can race tune that engine with the AMG power Pack to 420bhp...
The BMW looks anonymous for me...RUST anyone? NO THANKS!!! The Merc is so much more of a car IMO...Better built too...
FLAME ON! LOL

so..... if you knew this all along why ask the question?
What kind of response did you expect by asking this on an e30 website anyway? Come to think of it, why are you actually on an e30 website at all??
Saying that, the merc you are looking at looks very tidy and im sure it will be a great car for you. Power will be ample and im sure you will learn to live with the handling. Just looks too much like the sort of merc you can pick up for £500 in your nearest ghetto
Get the merc and get it on the track - you will soon see the error of your ways if there are any M3's there
Good luck with it mate

I have supported your idea of buying a cosworth merc but I think a lot of this statement is silly.zakh wrote:Either way its the Cosworth for me, you can race tune that engine with the AMG power Pack to 420bhp...

Merc 190e Cosworths all suffer from rust issues, if not molly coddled and dry stored all their life, probably worse than the e30 m3's do.
420 bhp is not available from an AMG power pack. 235 bhp was.
420 bhp was the most the race tuned evo 2 ever produced. That was in an engine that was rebuilt at the end of every race and probably cost hundreds of thousands pounds.
It does seem a bit daft to come on a e30 fanatics site and tell everyone that a mercedes is better then ask what they think?

EVO 2 anyday over an E30 M3.
My mate has a EVO 2 in Crawley, and i have been out in ti loads of times, and to be honest it is a better car than the E30 M3.
However comparing a MERC Cosworth 2.5-16 to a E30 M3, the E30 M3 is a better car, and 10k seems a lot for a 2.5-16 190.
End of the day each to there own

The 190 cosworth is a proper chariot but alas its virtues and appeal have been somewhat diluted by there being council spec 190s on every corner which to the untrained eye look exactly like a cosworth. The M3 on the other hand is unique ,try and all as he may , a council billy will not be able to replicate an M3 with a 316 and some P40.
I have owned and driven both cars ,all variants of the M3 and 2.3 and 2.5 standard cossies , i will say, don't discount the merc, a sorted car with a proper pilot is a serious chariot and a fair match for a M3.
To throw a fly into the ointment , does anyone fancy a nice 500e for £6000 ?, 0-60 in less than 6 seconds ,326bhp
now thats a proper Q car !

Respect...the 500e is semtex on wheels!
But your right the Merc is much more understated...and subtle...all some chav needs to do is go and get a 16v kit and stick it on a 1.8 190e...but thats not the point...
point is MB back in those days very subtle about there styling...

hi:
i've had a 2.3 cossie it is a nice car to drive had it a few years ago and sold it for just over a grand....
ever since i've been trying to hunt down a left hooker m3 i've had no luck in finding 1 for less than 4.5k!
and the ones you get in the 4.5k price range are dogs or have been driven too hard
e30 m3 is bavarias finest and very hard to replicate it is a true drivers car and unbeatable with the right driver behind the wheel!
most ppl who hav sports cars dont know how to drive them! my mate has a e46 m3 cab and he has trouble keeping up with me on A roads!
and i drive a 325 cab! he is a shit driver with more money than me
zakh u need to go on a merc forum mate i dont know why u even bothered coming on here

Find me a 500e for 6k and I would probably fancy it.
To be fair to the £500 comment mine sold for 1.25k and I see them all the time for that sort of money. Rough old dogs yes but still for sale for less than 2k.
I know of a incredibily nice condition 2.3 in blue black for 6k that has been sat in a garage for sale for over a year now because the price is too high.
Imo it is as near to mint as I have ever seen and the history is immense. 6k is still too much for it to sell though.

Having been in the Merc, i have to say comments on the M3 interior are rediculous. The merc's isnt as well screwed together and shutting the door is like shutting the door on a ford orion in comparison to the e30

Thank you, i paid 8k 2 years ago, i looked at over 20 cars before i found it.
It had no rust and had always been garaged. Since then its had an engine rebuild (not because of any problems) and a few other changes.
The only bit of rust on the whole car is in the scuttle (common area)
If you are thinking of buying one make sure you look at and drive as many as you can, there is a big difference between the good and bad ones.
hope that helps

Not at all, it was even a topic of discussion with the owner of the car at the time. He was the one that made the point at the time!!zakh wrote:hahahahahahahahaha @ Jhonno...You must be delusional to say the very least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Merc was the best built car of the 80's...

Keep it friendly guys, hes entitled to his opinion - nothing wrong with that.
There are not many left in germany now mate, back in the mid 90's there was very good money to be made by going over and importing them. This means most of the best ones are elsewere.
As far as I know I have all the options apart from AC and the headlight washers.

I doubt its worth more than 8.5k to be honest but id be happy to be proved wrong
I actually found mine on ebay although i didnt buy it on there. The same guy who i bought it from is now selling his evo 2 M3 on ebay which he bought a couple of months after selling the cecotto to me.
Id go and see that, hes a very honest chap and a proper enthusiast.
Asside from that, pistonheads, autotrader, bmw mags etc

I think the merc looks great, but there's no way I'd spend 10k on one. For that money I'd get a Fiat Coupe complete with FWD wrongness and dissapear into the distance with a new turbo and 300bhp. I'm sure everyone would spend 10k in different ways tho, and its personal choice thats stops us all driving a Focus

This is not a easy one..... Well the Mercedes and BMW have always been in the elite for German cars, good to drive, good quality and a prestige car. Indeed Audi have also been in the good family for a wile now for good German cars but I dont want to write about it now.... An E30 M3 is more a toy for boys.... Its a car with only two doors. The 190 is more practical with 4 doors and is more a kind of a toy you would buy if you have a girl and a young child.
To compear them is one way correct but in another way its like a girl and a boy.... To diffrent things....
Something who is more intresting is to compear MB E class AMG and a M5 to an example

I looked at 2.5-16 Mercs 10 years ago and was a little disapointed in the way it drove....I still love to see them around though!!! I havnt seen a post where you have said what the mileage is on this car,but unless it is mega mega low there is no way the car is worth 10K of anybodys money!! Just to let you know....I bought an Audi quattro Turbo 20V which was an awesome car with '0' depreciation and I would have a drive in one before you part with your money for anything else!
