no clutch on an auto just a torque converter. check the usual like fluid etc and gear selector mechanism but if not those they are pretty complicated bits of kit being partially electronically controled and maechanically controlled. better get a specialist of scrappers and check/change it.

That's just happened to mine. Period of slipping - revs but reducing forward motion - then nothing. Fortunately I was only 1 mile away from Bexleys and they towed me in. I had bought this box second hand off the zone a few months back and it was fine for a while. It had done about 120k.
(Had the same thing happen to my old 323 back in 1988 - it was about 7 days out of warranty! The replacement lasted 220 miles and was still going strong when I scrapped the car.)
Have been through the decision making process of considering a manual conversion but decided to stick with the rare auto (only about 400 or so Sport autos were made) and am currently having the box rebuilt. (the suppliers didn't have one on the shelf).
Hopefully back on the road next week.
Suppose I'm just saying that secondhand auto boxes can be an expensive option but then again luck plays a big part.
Hope you get sorted

i ve got a mk1 sport auto!!!

but back on topic note that not all boxes are the same as there are 3 and 4 speed and (sorry for not being more technical) old and new. 3 speed are bulletproof but apparently the newer 4 speed are prone to creeping foreward in neutral due to a blocked guvernor or valve body.

make sure you get a good un from a reputable place!!
