I am thinking of having my E30 fully steam cleaned, including the enginebay, and chassis, and then waxoiled, all for £85. Has any one else done this and what's the benefits?

The other question is that I need to get some bodywork done by dibs (scuttle pannel and rear wheel arch) do I do this before or after?

Well worth doing, and £85 isn't too bad. Do get the bodywork done first.

Benefits - quite simply, a massive reduction in the chances of rot!

I've heard bad things about steam cleaning engine bays and then getting loads of electrical problems.

this might help. Waxoils good if you do it properly, doing just before the winter if using your car or storing is a good idea as the salty roads rust cars quicker.

Waxoyl is a cavity sealer really for doing box section internals like cills and frame mounting areas, it's not really designed as a underbody sealer, I would recommend Dinitrol 4941 as an underbody/arch sealer. It's thicker and tends not to get washed off as easy.

Also if you do it your self if you can hire a small compressor you can buy a waxoil attachment with a bendy end so you can get in to all the corners, the high pressure mist makes the waxoil in to a fine mist to help it cover better to :D

it's cheaper to hire a ramp for half a day and scrub clean the underside before applying waxoyl (or other chosen product) with a brush and/or spray. as above though, make sure it's dry after cleaning.

it's cheaper still to jack the car up and do it wherever the car lives.

the benefitof diy to the owner is a greater knowledge of the underside of your car and where potential future problems might crop up. the downside is that it's rather unpleasant.
