Hi can anyone give me any advice on the following:
The drivers door on my 88 325 cab' has developed a really nasty creak/clunk everytime I open the door, it makes two distinct clunks as I open the door.
Is this a common fault & is it just a matter of changing the complete hinge & if so are they the same as on a normal saloon?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

easy to fix, there is a check strap which stops the door opening too wide, it is only visible with the door fully open and it will be a couple of inches below your upper hinge. there are two 10mm bolts that hold it on to the door, they will be loose on your car, tighten them apply a bit of grease to the strap (its actually made of metal so i dont know whay its called a strap) and you creakin and a clunkin will cease to be. do your passenger side too!!

i just replaced mine. job done.

if your door makes a snapping noise, the welds to the inner mount have broken. the only solution to this is to drill out the spot welds and weld up the holes.

replace the strap 1st to make sure though.

Thanks everyone for your help, I will have a look at the check strap & see if the fiitings need tightening or if I need to replace the whole unit.
