i know that the bhp for a 325i is 171 but is that at the wheels or 'at fly' ??

reason is someone said to me that standard book figures show the bhp 'at fly' and not at wheels such as parkers guide for example,

so i need some clarification pls :)

Youd be luicky to get 170 bhp at the flywheel from a standard 325i.

All manufacturers quote fly figures.

Iy is the 1.8 M40, but i just assumed those figures where at the fly, as people above just said all manufactures quote at the fly, so at the wheels though it would be below 100.

It like to get it dy'nod to see what it really is.

Clio isnt 172 bhp though it ps
realisticly its more like 165 bhp at the fly

as far as im aware most manufactorers state power at the fly
what the power at the wheels is can depend on how much drag there is from fly to the wheels.
if your clutch gearbox driveshafts and even wheel bearings are shagged this can have a nasty effect on what the power o the wheels your gona get

Hehe - Rich is right, isn't PS metric horsepower or something so 172 PS would be around 165 BHP

There have been alot of posts by people with the Gtech pro's they seem to be producing PS with their cars, or was that :bs:

:giggle:

in that case i think we use metric hp too - because the americans have lower hp for everything becuase they use a different unit of hp - so unless you're saying there's another, 3rd unit of hp...see what i mean?

right that's not very clear, so i thought i'd actually check google first this time

to me, it looks like in reality we use metric hp to rate cars, e.g. 325i is 171 metric. this is probably because almost all cars we buy have it rated in metric hp, but our own UK measure "appears" to be imperial hp (but how many of us have british cars, not many probably!).

so, when we say 172ps we can take that as 172hp, as pretty much anything you compare it to is going to be in metric hp anyway...

oh and americans all seem to rate their cars (even foreign cars!) in imperial hp - hence stuff like the 325i being rated at 168hp over there.

FYI i found that 1 metric hp = 735W, 1 imperial hp = 745W

and here is everything i looked at, decide for yourselves!

p.s. for all you losers  that think ram-air works, check out that second link  over 150mph only!!

well it's a theory that if you force air into a small space it will compress - basically like a turbo-charger does. but this ram-air theory i meant is people doing that with airboxes and simply trying to "drive" their car into the air fast enough that is is forced into the air box and compressed, resulting in more power.
nice idea in theory, but it doesn't work! read that second article and it tells you why...well, unless you are able to travel at over 150mph all the time

about as realistic an idea as those electric superchargers! hahah
