Hi I was quoted £180.to have my BBS'S refurbished
ie wheels in acid bath for 3 days then recoated
plus a loan of wheels to keep me on the road.
Good price or not what do you think?Or should I
concentrate on getting the bodywork done first?
As I have some rust issues [not serious yet] that
need attention. :?:

PS in the Paisley/Glasgow area

I've never paid to get mine done winkeye (cars came with refurbed wheels) but by all accounts they seem to be £45 - 50 per wheel.

Mind you, 3 days in an acid bath sounds pretty heavy!

Try these guys for a quote to give you an indicator www.lepsons.com They are the daddies!
Alternatively, try www.spitandpolish.co.uk

In terms of what you need to get done first, rust would be my personal preference. Indeed, I am having that done soon even though I need my Alpinas refurbed.

I paid £270 for my refurb but that included tyre removal/put-back-on, rebalancing and same day turn around.

Make sure you see some previous work so you'll know you like the finish.

thats a good price, i paid about 50 quid a wheel and that was to take tyre off, shotblast, re weld any gouges/scrapes and then turn/grind weld down to match profile, then prime, paint and then rub down centre caps, prime paint, and then refit tyres and rebalence

took them about a week to do

Bracknell Tyre & Battery charge £38 +Vat per wheel includes tyre removal/refit/rebalance, but they won't do centre caps...

Leave it Friday, back Tues or leave Tues back Fri...They do a good job too....

Oh, and that price doesn't include split-rims

No acid bath, either, but they are shot-blasted and painted to your spec/desire

BJV in Hertfordshire charge about £100 all-in for a full refurb including caps. Didn't have the tyres refitted though.

I know where they are and have spoken to Brian Vallack(?iirc) about using a courier, but he won't use one, so I want to make sure they are good before I go any further sorting my own courier, and I hadn't found anyone who had actually used BJV.... until now.

The edges of your wheels look lousy - I assume that's your camera? :D

I am a sick perfectionist -
1) did they leave any bits of grit under the paint?
2) Honestly how would you rate them out of 100%?
3) How long ago did you get them done?
4) Do they still look as good now?
5) Laquer peeling?
6)anything else?

thanks :D :D

Edges look shite, as I resized the image when uploading, they looked spot on in the flesh.

If you are a perfectionist, then perhaps you should spend a little more at a place like lepsons, who are pretty much universally praised, they will charge you £200+vat.

The alpinas, which I sold 10 minutes after those photos were taken, we good, good enough for me and the buyer, but they weren't perfect. I had those done in spring sometime. I will definately use them again, but can't really help with long term feedback.

ps how did you get the wheels to/from him (as you are in Kent?)
I know they do a van pick-up, but only within 50 miles?

Well I go to University in West London, so I was only a short drive away from them, and went there by car to make sure they knew what I wanted. Nice people too.

Hi I am tempted to do the wheels but the bodywork
comes first I think. It should not take long to do up
the body as its only, hole in scuttle, ariel hole and rear wheel arches.
Thanks for the input folks.

i payed £35 per wheel and then £5 to have the tyre put back on and balanced and that came with a year garrenty on the finish. top quality job and i've had 7 wheels done there. (dont ask, 7????) that was at a little place called metal magic in barnsly. abit far for you but might be of use to some one else reading the thead. :D

am i the only person who's had a rough time with lepsons? here's my last post regarding them...
gareth wrote:i got a set of 16" alpina relicas done by lepsons last year an i'm not at all impressed.

the problems i have / had:
~ some marks on the faces of the spokes are still there.
~ the centre caps were only sprayed on the front leaving the insides vulnerable to corrosion
~ the centre caps didn't fit in the wheels after being refurbushed as the paint on both was too thick!
~ when i complained they agreed to re-do all of them if i leave the car with them for the day. when i did this, they actually ground the outside of the centre caps down on a belt sander and then opened up the recess in the wheels with a die grinder. the recess in the wheels was then touched up by hand with a small brush!!!!
~ after about 4 months the lacquer started lifting and corrosion creeping underneath. this is not covered by warranty as i had the rims diamond cut and lacquered. incidentally, there has never been any damage to instigate the corrosion, the lacquer was porpus from the start.
~ after about 9 months now i want to remove one of my centre caps and a great big (20mm x 30mm) flake of paint came off leaving heavily corroded ali underneath. this is corrosion and my wheels have no corrosion warranty.

all told, i'm not at all impressed but i'm glad the other zoners on here have had a better time.

has anyone tried Spit and Polish in kent? i need to get my wheels done again after the mess lepsons made (and the one i subsquently smashed!!!) and i can't bring myself to hand over more money to them after how they treated me last time.

i'd hope they would offer a discounted refurbishment to me to regain any reputation issues... i'll have to talk to them...
