Mini update on this beastie
Malc reported a few midrange stutters over long term appraisal, so we've had a session with the laptop and squared those issues away for him.
Booost is 6.21 Psi max, spools @ 3.2K nd hold to the limiter sweet, no issues with heat soak , intake temps 10 degrees over ambient( good )
Drives so nice its untrue, IC to go and the boost is going up.
expect an apperance @ Surrey Rolling Road

and a mini update from me too
the car is running great
no problems to report still
after Ant's stint on the laptop yesterday
the thing really flies if you drive it right
(I normally drive like miss daisy is in the back)
its seems to pull like a 325i now (which is nice)
we did a rough 0-60 too
and its gotta be under 8 seconds now.
need to get a intercooler sorted now and up the boost a wee bit
hopefully gonna get it on the rollers very soon to see what she is putting down.
watch this space for a vid
coming very soon

Went for a spin is the 1.8T the other day, as mentioned, she does pull like a 2.5 now - all shes crying out for is a manual conversion and an intercooler - all in all an excellent mod for a 1.8 seeing that most 1.8's get thrashed+trashed due to them not beinging quick enough
Malc - should have some news on the intercooler for you today bud
Neil.

I'm sure you guys have the intercooler situation in hand, but just incase any of you boost junkies are interested or anyone looking to go the FI route...
whilst faffing about with my brother's MK3 Surpa Turbo a month or so back I noticed that the intercooler is a rather large item and recall Toby and others having issues as to which intercooler to go for, I think Saab ones and Volvo ones got a look in, but the pics I recall seeing of these items showed them to be pretty small affairs. Now i know that the size can become an issue due to there not being an awful lot of space behind the bumper and that the positions of the inlet & outlet also is a consideration, but I think it is worth someone having a look at these items as they look rather large for factory OE gear and may be worth consideration for future projects or an upgrade.

aah, that is considerably larger than I remember first seeing.
That is bigger than the supra item in height for sure, not certain about the width though, prob about the same.
I'll get me coat

mine is same way round as Toby's dude.
means relocating the oil cooler, but allows the rad to stay in place, and you can retain the viscous fan assy then.
Using the Volvo IC, there are very few electric fans slim enough to fit in the available space.
if you want to invert, then yes there is space but you may find there's no room to be able to change the belts/dizzy cap etc when they're required, I always keep in mind that the end user will need the car serived 100%, nothing worse than having to strip 50% out , to do the required items.
I took those pix today, I'll get cleaned up and upload for ya dude.
