1. Does one of my beams look slightly cloudy? Cant work out if its my imagination or not. The other lense (smiley) has been sealed to its back, but the other one hasn't, should this be sealed aswell?

2. On one side of the inside of my hood frame there is a spring doing something and on the other side there looks like there should be one but its missing. What do these springs do and should there be one on both sides?

Sorry these are shitty questions, thanks a lot for any help in advance

no, I mean the spring shown in the bottom picture, if you look in the same place on the other side (top picture), there is no spring. just wondering what it does and if there should be one on both sides?

looks a little cloudy to me mate, nothing a bit of water and washing up liquid wont fix though. remove the light units, remove ALL bulbs, swill the inside out with water / liquid try to get a small bottle brush in there, dry with hairdrier reassmble.

that spring will be to tension the wire that runs round the roofline, it runs over the windows, accros the front over the wind screen and back over the other side and is fixed on the opposite side to your spring. not sure if its supposed to be there. but it will do no harm as your roof may not be original and the people refitting the roof may have not been able to get enough tension on this wire, so a spring on one side would do the job.

dont seem to have any light front pictures, but dude, your car same as mine!!! (clear indicators on the way as we speak!!)

Great, thanks for the help guys. Will get my lights apart then and have good clean and seal. They are new, so they shouldn't be like that, but as they are mated to Bosche rear sections they leak a bit I guess!!

As fo the wire, glad to hear the spring should be there, not so glad to hear there should be two! Any ideas anyone what these tension wires do? I assumed the tension in the hood was held by the fabric being stretched over the frame?

thanks

just had a study of realoem and by the looks of it the springs are connected to the wires that go through the edges of the fabric and keep it taut...does you roof look a bit sad at the edge where there is no spring?

have a look at pics 7&8 in this link and you will see them hanging down!

http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/imag ... 24,00.html

this comes from another set of roof fitting instructions

" Insert a catch wire through the side cable sleeve so that it goes in the front and out the back.
* Catch the ferule at the end of the tension cable and pull it through the sleeve.
* Return the end of the side tension cable to its place at the front of the weatherseal retainer and push it back into the groove.
* With a pair of pliers or vice-grips crimp the cable tightly into the groove. Then check the cable to make sure it is tight.
* Re-install the door glass weatherseal retainer to the horizontal frame member. Don't forget the washer for the back screw. "

best of luck

yes david there is a plastic tube of sorts but its empty. I think I will replace the straps having read that article, its all very interesting, thanks for rooting that out for me! I wish I understood the whole roof thing better, I have so many problems with mine in terms of the window and the straps folding properly and all bedding down in the compartment correctly. Also I have problems with tension in the system when using the electric folding, the motors can't cope when the hood is fully tensioned. (a previous car of mine did not have this problem, the hood folded quickly and strongly all the way through the process) but on this car I have to help the motor by pushing the hood gently. Do motors wear out, or are they either alive of dead?

sorry for all the questions but it really frustrates me!

thanks

i know that's what it says but one car needs a lot more help than the other. specifically, when the motor first lifts the front of the hood it needs help as it says in the instructions, but then once the hood flap has lifted and it lifts the front of the hood for the 2nd time it needs help where the other car doesn't. Generally the whole process is very laboured and slow compared to the other car. I really wish I understood what was causing this and how I could sort it out! thanks
