After having a bump 2 days after returning from my europe trip, I decided I had better get some insurance quotes for my next lot of insurance...

I now have no NCB and 2 claims in last 5 years...

went to Admiral.com for quotes as i find them the cheapest for my details (currently with elephant.co.uk which is a subsiduary)

For a 10 month policy on the 320i touring, they want

£399 tpft.....

for a 318i auto touring they want

£408 tpft????

an iS comes in the same as the 320i and a 325i is £74 more..

so thats £66 for running a 325i instead of a 318i....

whats the deal with that?

neil

try www.skyinsurance.co.uk

speak to Jay. Although they have a rep for jap stuff they are extremely good on other stuff, their staff are knowledgeable on cars and their service is first rate. can't rate them high enough.

A problem with any of the Admiral group policies is if you have a total loss claim, even if you are 2 weeks into an new policy, once they have paid out, that's it game over and you have to take out a new policy. So if you are paying on instalments, then you would have to pay up the remainder of your premium or allow it to be offset against the write off settlment and you get the difference and then told to Foxtrot Oscar!

Im'm with Flux as I had not heard of Sky when i got the soarer.

fully comp with flux for me & her indoors, mods delcared (alloys & tints) group 20 Soarer with breakdown from flux was about £480.

Discovered Sky about 2 months later and called for a quote out of curiosity as loads of others had been singing their praises. £350 fully comp with breakdown and better actual cover.

It was only because I would be spit roasted by Flux and lose a stack from cancelling that I am riding it out, will defo be going with them come renewal.

Think the price they give is built on the number of claims for a particular car.
So chances are that as far as records go more 318's have been crashed writtten on than 325... well something like that.

Found same with e36, the 328 is generally a cheaper car to insure than a 325, the reasoning behind it, i dont know.

Also with regard to lowering your quote, try admiral, elephant, etc, and add named drivers that have no points or claims, i did this when i first took out insurance and saved £200 just by adding my mum.... like she was ever going to drive my car :D

putting my breadknife on my policy always lowers it by 40 quid or so and she has speeding points lol

remember as well that the higher power cars tend to be looked after more than the lower cars....for example when was the last time you saw a decent looking sierra that wasnt a cossie or an xr?....they just get used and abused and fall by the wayside and i reckon the insurance quotes reflect this.

ok high power cars may get driven faster etc but thats where your ncb and license points affect your quote as well....thats how they determine if your a nutter driver i suppose.

I wouldnt quite agree with that... all the forms ask for number of claims "regardless of fault" I man, last bump I had was someone driving a mitsushitty truck into the back of the touring whilst I was stationary.

yeah on the points though

they enter your details into the "cock-and-bull-computer", and press the "c*@t-you-off" button, then out comes random series of numbers, which gets slung around into becoming your quote!

no, don't be silly, they don't use computers to deal with claims, they just "file" your claim form, in the bin :P and then lay off the claims dept and ship it off to india.
