That sound that comes and goes... sounds like a camshaft 2 me... but I'm buggered if I know.

The light rhythmic ticking sounds like the tappets to me, the heavy knocking sounds like something much more sinister 
Mine made a sound like that when one of the big ends gave up the ghost.

The car has only done 700km ... and it's been making that sound since I fired it up... I dunno.

Has the engine had a rebuild or something?
Might be an idea to not run it untill the source of that noise is traced and rectified!

rhythmic possibly manifold leak. as for the knocking! i dunno but sounds expensive, possibly spun a shell

That noise the knocking... has been there since we fired it up, I can't really figure out what it is... it get softer when u rev up the engine...

Sorry, the motor is a 2.9lt stroker, 328i crank, M20 325i rods, E36 M3 pistons.
Head is stock except for Gasflow, and 288 Schrick.
