dude that's a lot of work.
If you want to know how it's done then send a PM to a member called Glenn as he has put one into a tourer. Think another zoner is also on with this conversion.
If you do a search "click on search at the top of this page" for v12 into e30 and you should get some results
welcome to the zone
If things like the engine & brakes are removed from the car they fetch more money separate, so if the project ain't for you then bust it, if not then people have picked these up running & driving for £50

As Glenn says, it's not the easiest conversion to do. Depends how handy you are at Welding/Electrics/Problem solving etc.......
To give you some idea you will have 5 ECU's and all the associated wiring to sort out (believe me there is a lot of wires), engine and gearbox mounts to make, custom make the propshaft and exhaust, sort out the master cylinder and brake boosters etc, etc.....
You will also be stuck with an Autobox unless you do as Dips did and find a manual 6 speed box/clutch/flywheel. These gearboxes are around £1000 if you can find one.
Cheers,
Rich.

easy , but how reliable ??benji78 wrote:dont think im goin to bother now. buying a turbo conversion instead. much easier to do.
in my opinion, its poinless slapping on a turbo and hoping for the best. it may be a quick car for a but, but it will go bang eventually
to do it right still cost money, and possibly similar money as it would be to get a standard v8 or v12 in to an e30

at first i thought it wudnt be that hard then i read a article that some1 else had done on here and that kinda put me off. as for the turbo conversion its only gunna b a little turbo so it shud boost the power by 30bhp, hopefully. the engines had new shells, mains, lightened and balanced crank and the head has been skimmed ported and polished and the inlet manifold has been done to suit.
so the engine shud be quite strong after all that.

if you skimmed it it will up you compresion, not good for a turbo set up, regardless if it a small turbo
secondly , did you change your piston rings??
thirdly, cooling !! a turbo set up generated lots of heat, need a bigger rad, decent fan, new water pipes !!!
the list is endless!!

Why fit a V12 into a E30?
Allright you will have a nice sound track from the exhaust but a V12 is to much for a "small" car as the E30.
I know one bloke in Norway installed a BMW V8 engine who looks very cool, but a V12 is like a small Cessna with a F16 turbine engine.
A E30 with a big 12 will for me look heavy in the front. But indeed, the prodject looks cool....

Iirc the V12 weighs not much more than an S50 cause the S50 has an iron block

Well, it was a reason why BMW fitted a strait four in the M3 E30 from Germany!
If you want to use your car for motorway use and not in small hardcore bended roads, then a V12 is a sweet motor....

the weight of the v12 only broght down the suspension by 5 mm on an e30 touring which originaly was a 325i
the point in haveing a v12 is not for the handling, but for the fun of it , th impact it makes, the noise my mates (dips346) makes is awsome. the looks you get when you open up the throttle is worth it.
also the torque it produces is somthing only a 4 pot can dream about
why do it you say, well give me one good reason not to

the cooling has been taken care of mate, had a rad made up thats the same size but is deeper if you know wat i mean and got some new pipes from bmw, also managed to squeeze in a electric fan of a pug 407, so hopefully that shud keep things cooler. yep had new rings and pistons had them polished aswell, doubt it will make a diifference but its worth a try. buying the kit of jamz.

benji with that turbo you need to run very low boost if any until you can get it mapped, that turbo is capable of making boost that will damage your engine quite easily, it doesnt matter what you have done to the engine internaly. Make a standalone ECU and a mapping session first on you list dude, infact i would just fit it and leave the charge pipe off and put a gauze over the compressor outlet until you can get this done beucase its not worth risking damaging the engine you have had built.

with the intercooler and a fat rad, the fan may struggle to push the cold air in to the engine bay, you'd be better off with a rad with a larger face.benji78 wrote:the cooling has been taken care of mate, had a rad made up thats the same size but is deeper i
