Fair enough you're right a proper S is rare, but most people (Porsche included) tend to call all post '88 951s a Turbo S as they were essentially the same cars and Porsche just dropped the 'S' from the title.Frenchy wrote:Ste,
A proper Turbo S was a cup car only produced for 1 year they were only available in 1 colour at first a pinky silver colour and were referred to as a "silver rose"
Porsche then decided to allow colour options.
Only 70 odd of these cars were bought and registered in the UK they had no sunroofs, different turbos, harder gear clusters massive brakes, fully adjustable Konis, even lighter glass amongst other things.
Rare as hens teeth are you sure you know what you have driven?
There are loads of BM's around these parts with "M" badges on them?
As you say The Silver Rose was the first 951 to have the 'S' options that basically amounted to the MO30 kit of LSD, Adjustable Konis, larger Brembos, forged wheels and most importantly the type '52' engine with bigger turbo, better flowing head etc to make 250bhp over the standard Turbo's 220. Then as you say they made the Turbo S which was basically a Silver Rose but in different colours. I honestly think Porsche did this because they struggled to sell all the 1,000 Silver Roses because the interiors were such a horrid pink velour! Straight after the S though all 951s were essentially to 'S' spec that was a 951 with those options as standard.
I had a late 951 and even Porsche always referred to it as a Turbo S to differentiate from a pre'88 220bhp Turbo. You're right though, really only those few late '88 cars were really Turbo S.
I hope you got good money for it - looking at the prices of them now they are basically the same as 1999 when I bought mine. I actually got more back of the Insurance Company when I wrote mine off than I'd paid for it. I only wish I'd put a few quid extra towards a 968CS then as they are still worth exactly the same now as they were then, a great buy back then you could have enjoyed one for a few years and maybe even made a few quid on it.
