Has anyone done this job?
Gonna be doing this next week, just wondering if it has a gasket or needs a gasket sealant.
Also how long does this take to do and are there any special tools i will need.
Will be changing the rad, cooling fan as well and probably the viscous for new items.
Will be doing this job with another zoner so hopefully wont take too long.
Any tips, advise and thing to be careful with would be helpful.
Many thanks Oz

It needs a gasket.

And its a B*tch of a job sometimes.

Sounds daft but remember the nut on the fan turns the opposite way to normal. You are supposed to use a 32mm spanner, but if it hasnt been done in ages you will need a mallet and a centre punch!

change the stat and hoses too mate, best bet for longevity, he parts are not that expensive

make sure and get the right pump, the outlets change pre and post facelift

Cambelt for good measure whilst its an easy access job ?????

Hardest part, will be bleeding, make sure the bleed screw is OK, they have a bad habit of breaking dude

got mostly new hoses to go on, bleed screw is a good call, heard about this one somewhere before.

makes sense to do the thermostat aswell, probably hold fire on the cam belt, should have anouther 10k in that yet but not sure.

whats the service life of a belt anyways, i was told 36,000 or 4 years i think, is this correct?

many thanks

is yours a 320 or a 325? I have a nearly new thermostat, housing and both switches, were only fitted for a day or two.

Thanks Dobbie, but i have a Tech 1 so doubt it will fit.

Simon my mate checked on the computer at his garage and said it was 4 years or 36,000, sounded like a long time me.

If you buy a genuine pump from bmw, they should automatically put a gasket in there for you but they may charge extra for it, if you get it from GSF etc, they may not be that bothered!
