that really hurts mate, i have heard of some cabby owners not bothering to lock their doors at least if the little bastards get in they dont damage a 500 quid roof.

I you can get the fabric material from another roof of roof suppliers then glue a piece in from the inside using rubber cement, and put a second piece on the outside, mine was like that for almost a year until i replaced the top, but just as i ordered my new top one of the local cats who spent most of his time sitting on my nice soft roof must have gotten a bit carried away with the old claws and managed to open a existing small rip into a cat sized hole, and he ended up inside my car! so a quick fix was requred. no material avaiable so i cut up an old pair of Levis and glued that in place from the inside, it actaully lasted 3 weeks unitl i replaced the roof anyway! didn't look too bad either!!!

sorry to hear about your bad luck, hope this helps. FYI BAS-international.com do cheap hoods and are A1 quality, one on mine and Dave-D got ont one his too. still not cheap but worth a look

here is my fix, and the BAS roof for your info (fitted here in Bahrain by a local shop) you can see the more professional fix in front of my new cat rip on the second picture.

I had the same happen got up went to the car and noticed daylight through the roof some scum had decided to use something like a key and managed to put a 4" gash in the roof not as extreme as yours but shit all the same I manged to carefully apply superglue to the wound and hay presto that was 12 months ago and not one leak and when the car was T-boned a couple of months back the insurance bloke didn't see the tear and even commented on the condtion of the roof.

But I know that at some point it needs to be replaced..

Good luck

thanks guys i apriciate the good advice ill try the material and patch trick as apart from the gash they created its fine the thing that really made me made is that it happened in a parking garage in our city with cct cameras and security patrols and in daylight and even after this happened and i reported it to the parking guy he still charge me the full parking fee on exit :x what a bite in the ass oh i might mention that this complex is attached to the brisbane hilton hotel so it is not a dodgy garage to my fellow cab drivers beware it could hapen to you anywhere.i will let you know how good the patch job is thanks again

hope it works, the jeans thing is a REAL LAST RESORT!!! get some fabric and it can be patched like you see mine, it worked for a year after i bought the car and god knows how long it was on before i got it, but in the end the fabric just perished. A good upholstory shop should be able to repair it and make it water proof, the only annoyance will be cosmetic.

I personally leave my cab unlocked, and normally with the roof down and a cloth over the seats trapped in the boot and front doors, but never leave anything in the car. It also helps (here in the miuddle east enyway) to pay one of the lads to wash your cars wheels (so they dont scratch your paintwork) its much cheaper then an alarm and much more effective!!
