I have got one of those immobilizers that is like a headphone jack plug that you insert into a headphone size socket hidden quite neatly in the steering column.
It has been topp but is now getting a bit worn.
Has any one got one on their motor?
If it is genuine BM do you reckon you can get replacement.
hows things..started on the conversion-any probs gimme a bell!!-lemme know when ure down this way so u can pick up linkages and prop.
get rid of that immobiliser, and get something like a sigma alarm immobiliser fitted--if ure afraid of electrics let the pros do it.... if not then just trace all the wires and see what circuits/relays they are cutting and then simply join up the old wires--i had to do this on my m5 and it was a bit scary but i got there in the end!
I had one of those, the contacts inside the hole bit started to crack as they are springy steel and over time i guess flexed enough to crack them, i could only get it to work by pushing the jack bit hard up at an angle.
Took the socket apart and used a high wattage soldering iron and bodged it all back together - good as new
karan the engine is now sat in garage, still runnin the m40 it is still sweet with no rattles, think Iam gonna sell the engine before removal,so potential buyers can drive the car and view the FSH of the engine for themselves.
I will buzz ya soon to meet up...L8r..Mak
