The engine mounts used in a E30M50 swap are the E28 ones. Are any mods to the mounts required when doing a E36 rack conversion? Or should the E28 mounts still do the job?

E36 M50 mounting arms should be used.

I fitted an E36 rack to mine while the engine was out, then fabricated the manifold around the column joint.

It was tight I tell ya! :)

Thanks Dan.

Any additional spacers required using these mounts to enable clearance over the E36 rack?

No, just drop them in the outer holes in the subframe

Will these essentially do the same job as the e30.de mounts?

they are talking about the rubber mounts, not the mounting arm it self

E30.de mounts are for the M30 conversion, NOT the M50

Guys, I've been told that E28 M5 and E28 535i mounts are different...
these mounts certainly look different also to a pic in another thread on here for an M50 conversion...

Can you shed any light? My M50 lumps in the hole and we cant get any mounts to fit (that we have lying around...)

I think one of the mounts is different for an M5, I used these as id read about and seen pictures of them in use on US cars.

They are solid enough for my liking 8)

The E28 535i and M535i (M30 engine) both use the same rubber mounts either side.

The E28 M5 (S38 engine) uses a round mount on one side and the mount in the pic above on the other side.

Yes.

When you fitted the E36 rack, did you put the spacers above or below it ?

If you put the spacers under the rack, it will be closer to the sump by about 14mm. They should go above the rack which puts the top of the rack in the same position as the original.

Fitted the M535i engine mounts and they are spot on, cheers!

Next problem though! - We cant get the upper water heater hose onto the back of the heater matrix because the inlet manifold is too close. My guy has 'suggested ' cutting 10mm of the outlet pipe to give some clearance and using some pipe with a right angle bend in it too clear - any suggestions or ideas???

I had no problems with the mounts I used (above)

Ive heard of people rotating the pipe but cant tell you much more, is this a 2.5 or 2.8 engine? The manifolds are different

Do have metal pipes coming from your matrix as I think these are longer than the plastic ones, but I would probably just chop them down a bit if it were mine, like you say, right angle hose would be a good plan
