I dunno if its still happening, but on a magazine test (I think it was Autocar) the Toyos supplied were a test pair and much better than the normal off the shelf ones, Autocar bought a set off the shelf for comparison and there was a massive difference between them. They were disqualifed from the test.

good grief - now I'm back to getting GSD3s (as best in the wet is most important to me)dmaxfield wrote:I had T1-Rs before and now i have GSD3s. The GSD3s don't seem to offer as much grip as the toyos. But are alot better in the wet unlike the Aybe the next step up is R888s
shame as the Toyos are only 73 GBP from mytyres.com in 215/40/17

Yeah I remember that, bit of an underhand tactic but it's worked and they have established themselvs in the market now.Jos wrote:I dunno if its still happening, but on a magazine test (I think it was Autocar) the Toyos supplied were a test pair and much better than the normal off the shelf ones, Autocar bought a set off the shelf for comparison and there was a massive difference between them. Orangecurry: If wet weather performance is that critical then maybe you should be looking at something like the Uniroyal Rainsports? I don't see them being upto the level of grip in the dry of other tyres we have discussed here but they should make up for that in the wet.
Had a mate who raved about them but he didn't really push his car so I can't give you a comparison.

I know what you are saying, but I know how the GSD3s are on that car in wet and dry, and they work very very well indeed.
The only reason I changed them was that the MOTer insisted - they STILL gripped solidly in the wet after they had worn past the wear-indicators, and were polished on the inside edges (the car has negative camber)

Fast Road Setup? I've been wondering if there's a place that knows a good fairly aggresive suspension geometry setup for an E30 but havn't seen anything about it in any posts. Pass on the details manorangecurry wrote:(the car has negative camber)

no no no
I have been talking about the family car, not the E30
On the E30 I have NCT5s on the front, and Uniroyals on the rear, and although the NCTs are a bit hard, I've never had any understeer, but then I'm running a lower-front-than-rear, Hartge style, so the nose never moves - it never moved on the previous worn-out Uniroyals either, so I don't really know what the NCT5s are like, as the limit is always reached at the back first
I have seen in 'zone-posts something to do with M3 bits onto other E30s to do a negative camber at the front. Ask the question as a new topic, and we can stop nicking dmaxfields thread!

Sounds like a Yokohama A008R..the A008 is also not grooved on the outer half...dmaxfield wrote:Dont suppose you kno the tyre that is half cut slick?
Great tyre for a dry/drying track...less than good on anything even moderately wet and I think they aren't E marked....The R varient is marked "for racing only" (or something very similar)...
Toyo R888s are, by all accounts, the tyre to have for DRY trackdays...
I have Avon ZZ3s in 16" on my M3 and they are not bad at all, bearing in mind the cost and the wear rate...
The Falken FK 451 or 452 is also a decent tyre for the money...Haven't tried the Bridgestone S03s, but the earlier S02s are grippy and fairly dureable, if not that cheap.

I run both F1 GDS3 and T1R's and i would say they are very closely matched as a performance tire! The only thing for me is that Eagles dont come in the size i want!
Would never touch Pzero nero's total shite!
IF you want a good tyre, like i have said before get the Michelin cup sport.

I'm not a fan of pirelli's however much people rave about them. I have driven on PZ-N's and just didnt feel planted at all the car felt really skittish.
I had a pair of p6000's on my old 316i and went through them in 5000mile! shit or what?
I use toyo's on the front and atm firestones on the back but will change them to champiro's when I have balded them
