Can always replace the diff, but if thats on its last legs then chances are something else is wrong mechanicly wise, just have a test drive see if everythings fine.

just come back from a test drive,
doesnt hesitate,, pulls like a train!!
diff is knackered me thinks,, diff bearing? though ok when warmed up still a bit noisy not as bad as when cold though,
disks got loads of meat, pads loads of meet, though the braking isnt as good as my IS??
body is very good, especially for a tech 1! interior neads clearning no rips or worn,, just nice and solid but dirty,
lumpy idle when cold, im guessing air flow meter or something along them lines,,, was fine when warmed though.
got some irratating immobiliser/alarm thing with a dodgy earth conection, doddle to fix.
120k with mOT history to back, only done 3 k in past year,,, rear arches redone,, head gasket done, skimmed head, and lots of other bits and bobs done, scorpion exhaust, with different tail pipes, does sound nice! lol
pulls away from 3rd easily! god tread on all tyres, and MOTed on the 2nd of august... tax till november.
worth 950??

If the body is sound then it is probably worth it, don't see many in Lachs, plus replacing a diff isn't the end of the world really.

the early cars have a rather poor linkage to get the brake pedal over to our side, later cars were revised in this area, might be worth haggling over though dude

just sold my mint tech 1 to a mate for 2250, and got the offer to buy it back if he sells it after a year if he hasn't shagged it. 110k km on the clock no rust anywhere, original paint, cloth sport interior, 16 inch MK rims. Thought that was a good deal. Gonna miss her!!

well mine was 2K in June, imported to Ireland that day
service booked stamped from day 1 all the way up to 118 its at now. Totally sound. It was garaged 3 yeas ago but run weekly and waxoiled from new, its got half the persian gulf sprayed to the underside and inside the body panels is greasier than last friday nights chip shop supper. the alloys came off every winter and the dude drove on steels
Its needed lets call it refurbishment - new disks, braided hoses, wheel bearings, handbrake cables.... of course filters, chips, eibach, BBTB and ICE have all been added (being added) as optional extras.
as collected

give it 5 years and I cant see tehre being any difference between tech1 and 2 prices. If the car is good and solid it will be worth more
power steering is for girls

P/S for girls? not really, i'd retro fit a P/S rack to it pront and save my arms
sport prices have gone down this last year, no longer fetching 4k for a good one now. I can't see prices for them going up for a while

man, that sounds like a really nice car. mayjor respect to the previous owner, but why do you have to ruin it with all that lowering springs, bbtb, and ice wrongness.

Tech 1's are bettere looking than tec2's imo and they go better but then so do all the early cars so why not buy a good non sport and fit the necessary (I dont include close ratio box in that) for a cheap good 325. Problems with the early cars are rust and poor brakes on the very early ones. As for value any really good 325 is worth 3000 imo as it will cost more than that to buy and put an average one right. As for tech 2 prices I sold mine for Ԛ£ 5000 earlier this year and one has just gone on ebay for Ԛ£4900 so it's just about finding the right buyer. Condition is everything with these cars though, I looked at a g reg 325 at the weekend and walked away from it for Ԛ£200.

i wouldn't use ebay as a guide for prices as i'm 99% sure a white sport wouldn't go for that. Shill bidding anyone?!

jon,
how is Eibach lowering springs ruining a car when they only lower a sport by around 10mm over standard. I'd rather fit the Eibachs than pay the Stealers their silly rates for what are bouncy castle springs.

if anyone wants an example of what a shit tech 1 can cost you, just take a look at my car and then go and count your pennies and see if you've got enough saved to buy new inner and outer arches, sills, jacking ppoints, an engine rebuild, new carpets, seats and seals and then get a paint job on top of that? anyone fancy shelling that sort of money on a 20 year old car? no? didnt think so! so when a tech 1 comes up for sale at say Ԛ£2750, Ԛ£3200 or as ants sold for Ԛ£3850 and everyone is saying "thats overpriced
" think about it.... it isnt. tech 1s are now more rare than a tech 2....especially in good nic... and thats why they can hold their value, especially when they are fully specced up!

fear not buddy there is nothing being done that cannot be undone in half a day, by ICE Imean new speakers in thesame places and a new head unit as I dont really like squeek squeek squeek from the tape deck - I aint no boom boom merchant - oh and an alarm. to be honest teh BBTB, chip and filter are to help a teeny bit with fuel economy and driveability as I sit in raffic 2 hours a dayjonb wrote:man, that sounds like a really nice car. mayjor respect to the previous owner, but why do you have to ruin it with all that lowering springs, bbtb, and ice wrongness.
but it cost 2K not 20K so its not a heritage mobile yet - crickey I feel all defensive about my baby, extra wax for her tonight!!!

The 2nd pic is flattering to say the least mate, the rear bumper had newspaper and handtowels inside, with aload of filler dumper on top, and then siliconed to body! Did go like a rocket though, diff, rear arb, mirror, shocks, rad and immobiliser have all found there way onto the red barge now. Wouldn't mind a mint sport, I must say, how is your's coming along?

Bristol car? hahaha, I could certainly see Jon driving round in it, right up his street.
The car was a joy to frag, so rusted that you didnt have to undo most bolts or nuts, the bodykit just pulled off in cloud of rust.
Daz, your car has gone up to 500 quids worth now!! Joking of course.

You'll have to wait until there are none left before they are worth 'serious' money. Think about all the E Types driven into scrapyards in the seventies during the fuel crisis when a rusty 12 year old 14mpg car was worth nothing, the Jag Mark 2's destroyed in banger racing, the RS Escort and Mini Cooper S's ruined in rallying and chopped up.
Look back at all the classic stuff today and the early examples are always worth more. A mark 1 Lotus Cortina is worth twice what a Mark 2 is worth. A 3.8 flat floor E Type is worth 50% more than a Series 11 4.2 and a Mark 2 Cooper S is considerably less valuable than a Mark 1. Yet in each case the later models were all better cars. Yet the originbal 325i Sport was a better car than the 88-91 car - not by a huge amount but a bit more lively, slightly taller geared and with a sharper ride. I never liked the Tech 2 Sport - the bodykit and rear spoiler look slabby and the potential for hiding serious 'write off' corrosion is too much of an issue for me to ever buy one.
As for 4 grand Sports - well the world has cottoned onto the fact that a good early 3 litre M3 is down to 4500 now.
