I am in the middle of sorting out some long over due insurance and DVLA paperwork for my recently converted 318i - 325i sport (pretty much a sport anyways) e30

.
However amongst all the paperwork that has come with the engine (V5 not included) I cant find the engine number anywhere and need it asap! I have the chassis number and registration. Will a BMW dealer be able to tell me what the engine number is from that? Any recommendations as to how I can get the engine number? or where to look on the engine itself as I can't find it, although not yet had a look from underneath (dont really trust my current jack enough to do so

)
Cheers,
Nick

Cheers mate, I'll take a look at lunch time but I'm sure I've already looked round there and couldn't see anything.
Any other suggestions?

Mark is right, passenger side of the block, get a torch out and you should be able to see, it towards the front of the engine just below the head.

something wrong with that chassis number, it should be 17 characters long. You only need the last 7 characters to run the check.
