Also I not that the pipe that goes from it is light blue and goes to the knob under the dash, yet how is it powered? as there is no power to the knob, and there is no wires to the light end? If I can get this going I might be able to adjust up. If not is there anyone out there that I can "borrow" there headlights to pass the Mot. Its driving me Fing crazY!!!

Phill, the adjuster on the dash is hydraulic(i think) and they never work!
How about using washers to pack out the backing plates a little?

Yeah mine never worked on my sport!
I took the little rods out and either screwed them in backwards or put little bolts in (can't remember which!!
), so the lights were 'held' in a more up position.

the lights were a sealed hydraulic unit, hence why they are so pony and hardly work on any e30s.
as tony suggested, use wasers of some screw to bodge it in place thats what i did!

Im
you should be twisting the adjusters to aim the lights. not trying to get the hydraulic part to work.

The systme is water and glycol mix under light pressure that is activated by the hand pump adjuster inside the car. No power needed.
With the hydraulic auto adjusters, there should be a knurled ring on the outside of the black plastic slave unit at the headlight assembly the pipe enters, turning this will allow some height adjustment, they should also have the standard threaded bar on the inside that can be adjusted in an out to further adjust height. These can also be replaced by the standard OEM hand adjusters with the normal white plastic ends fitted once the slave unit is removed as the headlight unit is exactly the same but with the slave carrier attached.
The hyraulic system can be recharched by immersing it all in water and removing the small alloy pins at each end and use a small bicycle pump filled with water to re-pressurise the system but it's hit or miss.
