right people, the time has come for some new brakes. iv purchased a set of ATE power discs but am in limbo as to which pads to use. Ferrodo's are way out of my budget and i dont want any of those nasty green stuff things, so im down to two choices i think.
either mintex 1144, which are 60 quid for an axle set, expensive but iv heard they are proper.
or pagid fast road pads from my local GSf. bearing in mind its only a 318is that isnt driven too hard. will these be enough? also can anyone find me a part number on the GSf site for these cos il be dammed if i can find it!?
what do you reckon people . . .

na backs are guna be solid ATE discs and some pads from a factors.
the front are what concern me especially as i have good discs now too.
Ds2500 is knocking on the door of 110 quid for an axle set. 1144, which are obviosuly good enough are 60 but thats still a lot in my eyes.

Dan go for the pagids, you will never be able to use the full potential of the Mintex pads save your money.

i was pleased with the pagid fast road pads up front, and standard ATE on the back. total cost 40£ plus vat, and provides good enough stopping power to make things fly from the back!

the pagids are very good, they last well on the road, but i did find nthey felt a bit wooden if you gave them too much abuse !!! but breaking from 120+mph to stop at set of light a few times will do that!!

Hey
I run pagid fast road pads on ebc grooved discs for track use and find them reallt good but givin the choice i wouldnt buy the ebc discs again. Managed to warp the first pair so ebc sent me replacements.
Beemers shouldnt have brakes not needed to go sideways.

i dunno why people knock greenstuff so much, went from pagid FR to greenstuff V4 on brembo max discs and was hard pressed to tell a difference..... greenstuff had more cold bite but Never got them to fade in road use, eaven with 'enthusiastic' driving on roads used for night rallys
(this was all on my scirocco GT2, dunno whats in the 320 but they work ok.... ish)

Greenstuffs are quite hard and have been known to chew many a standard brake disk. Am very surprised by your findings with the comparison to the Pagids which I have always heard people raving about Pagid's but from personal experience I didn't think much of the greenstuffs. Found the Redsuff much better although they do need heat to work properly.
These are all blown clean out of the water by Ferodo DS2500's though which are awesome no matter what the conditions

red stuff are not road legal i dont think
ferrodo are very good i think we all no that but as andrew pointed out a standard Is does not need brakes of that quality for just road driving, you would never use them to their full potential imo.

Reds it would not surprise me. They are pants when you start the car in the morning, you really have to get heat into them but once you do the first time so long as you don't need to emergency stop they retain more than enough bite to stop if your driving normally.
DS2500 are not road legal either but are much better suited to the road than the Reds. The DS2500 just bite hard no matter how hot or cold and are awesome once you get some heat into them. Best pads I have ever used, just a shame they cost so much.

cool man, bed them in right and they should do good service, mine lasted about 12k
NOTE to anyone and everyone
DO NOT EVER EAVEN CONSIDER TRUPART PADS i am sure they are made of solidified baboon droppings
i fitted them to the rocco as an emergency measure (only pads i could get hold of the day the pagids started metal to metal greating) and they were shite
emergency stop from 80 once bedded in, just to see what they could do on a very quiet and straight country lane............. what they did was stop the car..... with the pedal burried in the carpet and clouds of smoke from both front wheels

well; picked up the pads on tuesday and thought they looked suspicioulsy like rears, but took them anyway.
just been to fit them and yep, they dont fit the front.
Anyway, i said to the GSF gentleman; "with all due respect, i thought it was pretty dam imposisble to order the wrong part number when i gave you my registration number and chassis number"
"yes i would have thought that too sir. The problem is now we dont have any left in the company"
so now im back to fuckign square one!

NO NO NO NO NO....
Don't fit front pads and not rears..... Yea it works, no doubt there'll be a million and one well meaning people saying: Well I did and it was fine.
But dont.
Think about the kinematics of it all dude. In-balance when cold, heat up fronts, in-balance when hot. Genius.
I like the pagid fast road pads. Excellent all round.
The dust is a little corrosive though.
Match your pads left to right, front to rear and do the same for tyres.

I heard somewhere recently that Pagid had stopped producing the front fast road pads for the E30
Shame because I really like them

I agree that ebc products leave a bit to be desired, but read this and it points to a pad issue, not disc http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_wa ... disk.shtmlI run pagid fast road pads on ebc grooved discs for track use and find them reallt good but givin the choice i wouldnt buy the ebc discs again. Managed to warp the first pair so ebc sent me replacements.
Also, I have red stuff pads on the front of my gt4, I wouldn't recommend them, not because of stopping ability from cold, but because on track performance did not match standard pads! Yellow stuff are supposed to be better, but they're a bit OTT for the road (equivalent of DS3000's)
