I seem to have a patch of oil on the top of the rocker cover on my E30 320iSE.
What's this pipe on the toop of the rocker cover for?
Sorry guys I am a very uninformed newbie on the zone.

i can't see the pic as i'm not a member of the site where you hosted it

a more common site to host pics is www.photobucket.com been very reliable for me.

I'm guessing though that the pipe comes out of the back about 2/3 along and just to the left of the B in BMW?
pic of my old 325 rocker cover etc if that helps?

not calling you daft but you've tightened the jubilee clip right?

Your heat sheid needs sorting out too -Is that a pipercross oil breather you got too?

It's just a breather pipe, it has probably perished at the end. If you have enough length, cut the existing end off and re-attach. Otherwise you might need a new hose if it's too short to remake.

I have tightened it as much as possible. I will get a new pipe, do Euro Car Parts or GSF do them or does it have to be BMW?
I do need a new heatshield, (Where from?) is it easy to fit?
I think its a Pipercross filter (the blue filter) and its on an ECOTECH valve.

Yes, number 1 is the exhaust manifold!

that's the correct part missus, but it also is the exhaust gasket and as said, the perils of snapped studs loom as you have to remove the exhaust manifold from the head to replace
