I have replaced the fuel pump recently and also the surpressor which runs in line with the pump.Does the surpressor go a certain way round as there are no direction arrows on it and it look identical from either side. The problem is the car is fine when initialy started and will rev out fine. When you get out on the road it will get to 4000 revs and then start to die back as though its fuel starvation. The car as been parked for ten years. The injectors seem to be firing fine but its hard to tell if they could be dodgy and obviously an expensive exercise to replace if there's nothing wrong with them.

Any Ideas!!!

Not sure what your issue is, but it is possible to get the injectors ultrasonically cleaned rather than replaced. Its a cheaper option if you ever need it.

if it's been parked for 10 years it could be loads of things.

If you're sure it's fuel, then I'd replace all the cheap bits just to be on the safe side... fuel filter, static fuel lines (not as bad a job as you might think and only about £20 the pair), all the the rubber lines etc. but tbh my money would be on a load of crap being in the tank and clogging the first pump.

don't rule out the problem being ignition based though...the rotor arm, cap, coil and leads can all cause problems similar to what you are describing.

good luck

Fuel pump works at approximately 100psi. It is highly unlikely that a running pump will not be able to deliver specified fuel pressure.after ten years replace the fuel filter as well and the Fuel pressure regulator as these will be fcuked . a fuel filter is about £20 i think and the regulater is about £55 so i would try those first as after ten years they would need replacing anyway

Changing the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator was one of the first jobs I did and I can not recall seeing the fuel filter up there in that tight space infront of the rear wheel,Is this the right spot?Do you think the fuel pressure regulator can go on the wrong way round?Additionally does it have a pre pump in the fuel tank itself.

Regards.

OK put on a new fuel filter and it ran like a dream for 3/4 of a mile and then started spluttering again.I took the pre pump of on the top of the fuel tank and took a look inside with the torch.Basically it looks full of crap.I had already drained the tank and then washed some clean petrol through and no crap comes out of the drain plug!!!.I,m wondering if the rest of the tanks clean apart from where the pre pump sits in.Is there anyway of cleaning the fuel tank out without taking the tank completely of as this looks like a major task.

Still can't understand why it ran clear for 3/4 mile though.
