Weird yawning noise coming when i steer right?? + track rod
Moderator: martauto
Got some very weird sounds coming from my car. One is a creaking but i know what that is as my track rod end is on its way out. How much is a track rod end anyway?
However, i have a weird yawning (only way i can describe it) coming from my steering when i turn right only. Any ideas??? Im confuzzled. Could this also be coming from the track rod end?? Its the driver side rod end thats going.
Thanks in advance.

What colour is your power steering fluid?
Have you checked its level?

Hmmm, i think it does do it when its still. Will check tonite. the track rod end is definately worn as you can feel it throught the steering and the wheel will move slightly side to side when you wobble it. Could be. PAS level is not low as i checked the other nite.

Ok, i will do this. Think iv got a wheels bearing going though unfortunately as im starting to get a humming sound. Bloody hell.Just put a new starter motor on it and i have to spend more money.lol. Could be worse though.
Cheers. Will give that a try. Oh, it doesn't happen when i turn the wheel a stationary only when the cars moving which makes me think its maybe wheels bearing related??

you can buy the wheel bearing directly from FAG at a fraction of the retail price from dealers, same thing different box. thing GSF do them at reasonable price too, can be a bitch to change and i will almost guarentee you will change the wrong side!!! I did
noise when giong left, must be right wheel bearing, changed it.... nope!! was the left! DOH!
but to be honest a wheel bearing would have to be pretty bad to be dangerous, just turn up your tunes and wait till you can feel the problem rather then hear it!!

just leave it dirty, mine aint ever packed up yet
currently working on that list just now-need to add steering rack to it.
jack the car up at the front and turn the steering with the engine off
listen for sound of the bellows "squishing" that means they're full of fluid and gubbed (just like mine

Jeez, I've just had my steering rack on the touring changed for the second time, the first "new" one was p*ssing fluid as I drove it out the garage!
Also had to get a new pump, a new radiator and the brakes done. It cost a bleedin packet to get it through the MOT, but at least I've got a full years ticket on it now
The Cab is just through its MOT as well
