It will work, you need to short out the clutch switch i believe.

I swapped cruise control between 2 autos of mine and there is already a plug for the clutch switch which you just don't use.
guss30 - you'll love it when it's fitted, make for real relaxing driving

I wasn't actually volunteering, just thought it would be a good idea to find out where guss300 was in-case someone was near to him and could help out.Demlotcrew wrote:E30Mark, its a good half days work to fit properly.

This biggest pain in the a** I found was getting the plugs through the rubber grommet behind the glove box. I didn't want to cut the loom and connect it all up again.
The next bit is getting the loom threaded nicely behind the dash. Besides this, which bits go where is pretty self explanatory.
Got some photos of when I did it Guss if you can't find someone to help you.

Tie a bit of wire round it and pull it through. Don't waste time trying to push it through, it's really easy to pull through & you'll end up reverting to that when you get p'd off trying t'other way anwyay!dannosail wrote: This biggest pain in the a** I found was getting the plugs through the rubber grommet behind the glove box. & If you end up with a spare clutch switch guss, I've still not got round to getting one for mine (need the bracket too!)...
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...
Use silicon aerosol spray to get the plug through the rubber bulkhead seal and make sure you cut out the right circle in the bulkhead. I cleaned off the lubricant spray with meths and sealed it with clear silicon sealer afterwards just to be sure (well it was in the garage anyway…).
Make sure you install the “brainâ€a with the terminals facing towards the passenger side or the loom isn't long enough. Don't worry about the bracket for the “brainâ€a just secure it sensibly.
The clutch switch really isn't an issue. I have now two manual cars with cruise control and in practice you NEVER change gear with cruise on. For a manual you just need to short across the two wires on the loom. Various articles (search) tell you which wires. Or you can buy a joining connector from the dealer for goodness knows how much, or someone (possibly me) will send you one free. Most cruise controls seems to have come form the US where auto is pretty much standard so ther's a surplus of connectors in the UK.
If you have an auto (sad?) you just plug the relevant wires in.
About half a day is correct unless you're professional and go so fast there's no time to enjoy it…

took me a couple of hours, ive mounted the cc ecu on drivers side behind vent(too many ecu and c/l alarm module above glove box.i didnt have the correct clutch switch bracket and so effectively linked the two wires together
. i cruise control everywhere now lol-doesnt half help the economy.
