Peeps,

I have been trying to retro fit an electric sunroof in my car for about 4 weeks on and off  in the end I gave up and gave it to a electrical car place to fit as I couldn't get the motor to sit correctly, well they got the motor to fit sweet, but now the actual sunroof itself will not open when I try?? It worked perfectly when I had the winder, so why not now?? If I was honest I have a sneaky feeling that I may have moved the sunroof out of place when trying to originally fit it, but why is not opening or closing, even with the winder now..Can anyone help, as this is really pissing me off now and I wish i'd never started it

Do I have to a complete new sunroof with the runners and so forth or can I still fix my current one??

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The problem is : The motor doesn't fit the backplate! It looks like it will fit the backplate, it nearly fits the backplate, but for some reason known only to the BMW design team, it doesn't fit.
If you modify the motor to make it fit, the screw on the left hand side needs to be longer than the original and needs a small spacer fitted under the motor, otherwise it will crush the guide tubes.
This is what I suspect may be your problem.
Best way to do this conversion (for the second time today) is to fit the complete motor assembly complete with mounting plates and the full guide tubes, using the original flexible inners.
Roof is easy to time up. You wind the roof part way open, remove the motor, then adjust each side by measurement from somewhere so that both sides are even.
Refit the motor, check that it's still even, and use the motor to fully close the roof. Press the switches briefly to get it exactly into the fully closed position. Take the motor off again, use the switches to set the motor in the closed position.(Just press the relevant button until the motor stops), and then refit it. Job done.
