Thinking of fitting a set of genuine 16 inch alpinas (8 inch rear ,7 inch front) purely because i like the looks of em,but would they feel any different to my 15 inch BBS in the way of handleing and performance and also how much will my speedo be out? Anyones experiences are very much appreciated.

the speedo will be fine!
with the 16's the handling will feel a bit better due to the less sidewall flex. 8j on the back really help in the wet by getting the power down, especially if u have an LSD.
15bbs, 16 hartges 7.5 inch allround or 16 7,8 alpina's are the best rims if handling and good ride quality are what u are after imo
i have one E30 on alpinas and one on 15bbs at the moment, u can tell the difference between the two cars

Whats up with 17" reps? I'm looking for the posts but cant seem to find them.
I think I remember someone saying something about vibrations at certain speeds due to a plastic spacer or something like that??

I agree with Simon, ride is amazing on the 'pinas, but you do get less warning when the back does decide to step out. I took mine to a private track just to get some practice!

Hi there,
well I agree with what has been said, the handling with the Alpinas wheels is great.
About the back giving less warning before it steps out, well, if you decide to force it out, then you will be in control. Just don't let it decide by itself !!
Cheers / Pierre

Buggers the handling. You get less feel/feedback through the streering wheel so it's harder to tell what the front tyre's are doing. I bought the car with Reps on 3 weeks back but im much happier now i've gone back to 15's.wildeian wrote:Whats up with 17" reps? I'm looking for the posts but cant seem to find them.
The spacer is there because the Reps are made not just for the E30 and you need a spacer to adjust it to fit an E30. It's the cheap way of making wheels, make the wheel a generic size and then use spacers to fit individual models of cars. The Reps I just got rid of had 8/9 different holes to fit it to the car. They supply the appropriate spacer and you use the appropriate holes to bolt them onto your car.

Wildeian, sorry mate i cant point ya in the right direction, its just what i've read on here over a lot of time-generally, from what i have read ,people have given 17 reps a bad write up due to tramlineing,vibrations,w/bearing problems, weight and destroying the feel of an e30 and from my point of view thats the last thing i want to do, cause at the mo mine feels likeWhats up with 17" reps? 8 inch on the rear will handle well. wot size tyres do u put on 8's anyway?

Yeah mate this is what i'll do. As implied above,i dont think i'll be happy with reps, going off what i've read and i'm sure i'll feel a certain amount of "kudos" with real uns !!! As for tyre size on 8 inch rears ,i can only guess at 225/45 ,but not certain.if ur gonna do it do it properly and get originals

I had an escort cosworth with 225/45/16 and these were 8 inch wide and i'm sure (the more i think about it ) some e30 alpinas came with 225/45/16 on 8 inch rears (but -if i'm right-these were the factory combinations)
