Hello people, got pulled for my number plate yesterday night (B9G JO). I've been pulled a few times for my number plate but this officer was insisting that i either put my old plates on OR i get the plates done legitimately (B9 GJO)!

http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 439sh6.jpg

The reason why i got the plate was for the fact i can make it says Big Jo. Anyway, the officer is making me change the plates whichever option i choose & making me take it to a local garage to stamp the slip they gave me which, i need to produce i 14 days.

What do you guys think i should do in this situation?

Stay D Low for a while with my normal plates OR get a new set made up which makes no sense (B9 GJO)?

Taking it to the garage isn't a problem, my mate said he'll stamp it when i'm ready so that's not an issue. It's just how i go about the plates.

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards, BJ :?

If you've got a producer, you've got to follow it up. Get the stamp, then just put your fancy ones back on again after a while... your risk though.

Mine are illegally spaced AND illegally sized... no problems yet... touch wood.

Thanks guys for your help. I will follow up the producer, that's not a problem. The only thing that's winding me up is that i paid a lot of money for the plates, & was quite a bit to get it printed with the Alpina & BMW badge on it as well.

http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 439sh6.jpg

Cliffybabe, do you think i should have the legitimate plate on the front or the back?

Geeman, i'll probably put my new plates back on at some point, it's killing me fella

Can i not get all the letters & numbers pushed together, or is that even worse than the way my plate is spaced out ATM?

I gotta say though... that is blatently illegal!

If it was a 1 or a 7 then it might not be so obvious...

Mine reads GIL35 51 instead of GIL 3551 - illegal, but not as obvious as yours.

get some normal ones made and keep in in your boot with some heavy duty velcro, if you get pulled again then slap the legit ones on infront of the copper, and tell him you forgot to take em off after a show

Basically with B9G JO you are breaking the law and nothing will change that and a while ago they were issuing £1000 fines for plates like this.

If you still want to keep your plate like this, I would suggest that you keep a pair of B9 GJO plates in the car and if pulled just claim that you have been at a show or something although this excuse wont work too many times.

Got to be said, your plate stands out a mile with the wrong spacing....

My plate is illegally spaced... never had any problems with them! apart from the other week when i sold my car and had to take my car in for a DVLA inspection to transfer the plate off. Had to buy a set of 'legal' plates for a 5 minute inspection.

I'll be putting my illegal plates back on the new car ASAP...

sorry to sound harsh but the plates are illegal. whether you think the law is an ass or not you still have to comply. would you drive your car with slicks on just because it helps cornering ?? sell the plate , put the money into some car mods that you can appreciate and then you dont have to worry about mr plod !!!

Thanks JCB for the advice.

I've had the plates on for a while & it's only till yesterday an officer actually told me to replace the plates with legal ones. Previously they wanted to check what the previous plates was as it wasn't registered on the system straight away, however had all the right paperwork to say it was being transferred!

The officer said that i have to get them changed because they couldn't put the plate into their car computer? Surely it's obvious just like Mark's plate that there is three letters at the end of the number plate. Therefore put the rest in the first box, no? For example with Mark's plate, E3 in the first box & OOK in the last box? In my case B9 & then GJO. It's not rocket science for the police, is it?

Or are they just being difficult AGAIN!

Dude, you could just get the number plate surround with these on....£20 for a pair - hardly going to break the bank! Then you can have some normal plates and save the grief.

By not going into the computer, he might mean the numberplate recognition system as these do have trouble recognising adjusted plates, hence the crackdown on badly spaced and wrong font plates. The same goes for digital speed cameras.

Hah...! That means I'm invisible to speed cameras and stuff?

I doubt that it's true... I'm sure if I went through at 120mph they'd find out who I was and get me!

Cliffybabe, i got a massive sound system but wasn't blazing the tunes fella! However, my car is very loud due to a few mods on the car & therefore had the music low so we (my pal & i) could listen to the engine. The car looks road worthy & looks decent enough to have MOT, tax & insurance (which it has)!

When i was cruising in Brighton last night, the officers pulled up at a give way & gave way to me, i drove past BUT could've easily given way to them . I did try to give way & slowed down but didn't flash my lights. Think this might be the reason why i might have caught their eyes. The driver (not the idiot passenger that messed me about) even said mate you're car's lovely! The officer didn't say anything & made some face to wind me up! He was doing everything by the book to make things worse! Sorry but what a w****r, he must be a freshie the way he was doing things, trust!

Geeman, i agree with your last comment! For example, last night.....did they not find out whose car it was & whether it was insured etc? Tell you what, police are lazy w****r's that give young drivers with okay looking cars trouble! I've had 5 E30's & am only 21. Driven BM's since i was 17 so i know about being pulled people, i mean i'm asian & muslim as well, think you all get my drift?

You have to be careful with this Jo, as I beleive if they catch you with illegally spaced plates a few times (I think it's 3 times), they can actually confiscate the right to use the plate!

£2.5K for that plate, you sure? seems an awful lot of money.... The DVLA can confiscate the plate if you don't display the characters properly....

Yes mate, i did pay £2,500 quite recently direct from DVLA. The offered me B6G JO for £1,800 which i was going to settle for until the offered me B9G JO which seemed better for what i was trying to achieve

firstly claim that it does read on the computer cos you had a speeding ticket on the plate (copper wont hae anything to say then)

and he sounded just like a jobsworth not all of em are like that..

Respect to DVLA , they take £2500 off some hero with too much money for what in reality is a £299 cover plate, then send the coppers around to hassle him for trying to juggle the digits to make some sense (in vain) of his 'investment' . It gets worse , next BIGJO, if you keep breaking the law , you will be fined, then the plate will be confiscated and sold to another hero with too much till !, and the vicious circle will continue, kerchinggg ! :)

To be honest it looks stupid spaced either way. Even spaced illegally it doesn't look anything like 'BIG JO'.

I don't believe you paid 2 and a half bags either. If you did you're a muppet and you certainly didn't buy direct from the DVLA.

http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en/Searc ... &x=35&y=11

The DVLA list B6 GJO for £399 and B9 GJO would have cost exactly the same. (like all B* GJO plates).

Sorry guys, a bit of confusion with where i purchased the plate from as it seems to some next man 'STE' that this is what my thread is all about (where i got my plate from)! :offtopic: ..................................................................................................

BUT anyway, everyone's an individual with their own opinions & problems! It's funny how people get all excited & sh*t!

Firstly i purchased it from a site of the net & got DVLA to put the transfer through. That's what i meant. So to STE i do apologise if you got the wrong end of the stick fella BUT there was no need to call me a muppet because i paid too much for a plate. And geez, it doesn't matter if it looks stupid to you because it's not your plate & if you can read, the thread i posted is all about the problem with the police, so if you've got anything to share regarding the issue then please do feel free to do so. However, if you want to talk sh*t then you can piss off & talk to your puppets mate

Thanks for all the helpful information people, it's much appreciated! Please excuse me for getting all wound up by STE but it's always the minority that have to ruin it for the majority! Sorry!

Bob S, i'll be going to BMW tomorrow for a new set of plate fella, thanks

Sh*t man, 3 times? That's worrying! Can't be losing the plate!

Basically, keep the B9G JO at the front & B9 GJO at the back?

Any questions, say either i've lost the front one/it's been damaged/just come back from a show & forgot to change the front/or say you didn't know & bust out the legit ones?

Anything else?

Thanks people for the RELEVANT info, much obliged!
